A Look at District 13-4A Schools After Pre-District Contests
Canyon Lake’s football season and District 13-4A is entering the final 5 weeks of battles and there is now enough games played that can shed light on who might be the toughest and who has a shot with those 4 playoff spots.
First thing noticed is looking at Davenport’s spotless 5-0 record which shows a team that is enjoying smiling faces to start this season.
These Wolves are followed by 3 other district schools with winning records (3-2) that have thrown their hat in the ring.
Marble Falls & Canyon Lake are those final two district foes that have a combined (3-6) record and who happens to be opening district against each other.
Another common trait is having these two schools with a slot-t offense so that element of a surprise offense to plan around will not be evident this week.
MFalls’ Ponies lost a lot of good players to graduation and will be coming into this contest on a 2 game losing streak after being shut-out by Fredericksburg (23-0) two weeks ago.
Canyon Lake (24.5) and The Falls (22.2) are last in scoring offense when compared to the rest of their district opponents.
Leading in offense is Davenport (45.2) with the Lampasas Badgers (37.6) in second who is followed by Taylor (35.4).
As mentioned in previous articles this district has not had a bounty of tough opponents played which should be placed on your plates when deciding who might have one of those chances to punch a ticket for a post-season berth.
Taylor and Lampasas have not had stellar teams played as these Ducks 3 wins were against opponents with a combined (5-11) record while these Badgers’ three wins had a combined (1-14-1) slate.
The Lamps best game was a loss to Wimberley (38-28) which gives an idea this school will not be an easy out.
The Ducks’ best game was also a loss but to Gatesville who has a (5-1 record) with that 22-21 loss to start their season.
Burnet has played a good schedule but had a head scratcher in their last game after beating Early 49-48.
Early (2-3) is a 3A school with losses against other schools within their classification.
District School’s Wins with their those teams overall records.
School Wins Records (of opponents)
Marble Falls 2 0-12 Connally, Chaparral
Burnet 3 6-9 La Vernia, Giddings, Early
Taylor 3 5-11 Rockport, Robinson,
Lampasas 3 1-14 NE College, Connally, East View
Davenport 5 14-17 Peiper, Devine, Lockhart, Tivy, Victoria West
Another tangible for your equation comes by comparing the Classification of teams played.
3A 4A 5A 6A CL Hawks 0 1 2 1 Lampasas 0 1 4 0 Taylor 2 3 0 0 Burnet 2 3 0 0 Marble Falls 0 2 3 0 Davenport 0 1 4 0 4 11 13 1
This graphic is where it could become confusing. For instance, Burnet played two 3A schools who would
certainly have a good chance of beating some of those 5A schools that Lampasas suited up against.
So, ranking those 5A and one 6A school would help in deciphering who scheduled the tougher set of games.
For, The ReSporter, the proof will start to come clearer after this week but by using Jethro Bodine math the pre-district battles in order of strength would have to go to Canyon Lake.
Davenport looks to be another school for one of those 4 playoff tickets. Those final two teams has Lampasas and Burnet in the mix.
Just some deciphering based on ’nerdy’ numbers to give a casual fan what might be in store in those upcoming weeks. But…’this is why you play the games’, mantra would need to be exclaimed to allow for upcoming upsets.
Turnovers and defense should be a reason a team might rise or fall as each school sets their sights on a chance to earn a playoff invitation.
Let’s GO Hawks!!
