                      Way to Go Hawks!!

Looking at the results above would give the ‘Eye Ball Theorem’ advantage to the Davenport Wolves. Being undefeated and averaging a bus load of points per game would seem that this edition for Canyon Lake would not be able to clear this high hurdle.

By using some more deep diving we can see just what might come from this Friday’s game between two schools that opened their first game in district with a win.

The Lake is still looking for their first score of any type of points coming in the first quarter. CL has been outscored, 54-0 during this period while these Wolves reside with 71 first quarter points thus far. Advantage Wolves!

Canyon Lake will need to find a way of opening up a way to break even to start this battle. Getting behind the 8-Ball will not bode well against a team that averages 43 points per outing with two games scoring over 60 points. That average is one more point than the Hawks have scored in a game…which was last week in their win over Marble Falls.

GO HAWKS & don’t forget to VOTE!!

On the flip-side, Davenport’s defense is not the Rock of Gibraltar by any means. Allowing 32 points per outing for many teams have a losing record. That is what makes this Wolves’ offense look even better.

QB Triston Hamlin is completing 65% of his passes for 1469 yards an average of 240 yards per game. Hamlin has thrown for 16 touchdowns and has been intercepted 5 times.

This is a balanced offense that has Shastin Golden averaging 209 yards for a lofty 8.3 yards per carry. Golden is 77% of their rushing offense with Hamlin attributing 95 yards on 25 carries or scrambles when his receivers are covered.

On those receivers, the Wolves had 4 that get targeted the most with David Miller leading that foursome with 32 receptions for 410 yards.

Kylar Payne (348 yds), Emmet German (329), and Singletary (322) which gives this Wolves team several options on each snap of the ball.

Davenport will usually excel with the run or pass based on how their success is working. There were 2 games that yardage was statistically even.

In the Wolves win over Taylor, it was Golden carrying this team with 345 yards on 33 carries. Their passing attack was 86 yards which was the lowest in that category this season.

Defensively has Davenport giving up 258 yards rushing and that had a Devine team strolling thru that contest amassing 494 yards of real estate. This defense is allowing 180 yards through the air.

A lot to say ‘Grace’ over and saying this group of players are skilled and fast.

The good news (and yes there is some good news) is knowing The Lake has played teams with speed this year and having a chance to reuse those learning experiences in games of this magnitude.

                     Hawk Proud

That is why the main key to victory is being able to take the air out of the ball when CL has possession and using their rush or pass to help keep the chains moving. Starting the scoring during that first period would go a long way in seeing a Hawk pull off a win.

Davenport has shown a weakness (albeit small) scoring 43 points in opening the 2nd half but those Wolves have awakened in that final 12 minutes scoring their most points (86) which tells that casual fan this game could be at break neck speed from start to finish.

Hence….what can these Hawks do when that opening bell is rung?

Wake-up early Hawks and Fly High!!
