CL Hawks vs. Bellville Pre Series Synopsis

Breaking down the Bellville Brahmas who the Hawks will go into battle this coming Friday-Saturday in a best of three scene.

Bellville finished 4th in District 25 and these 4 post-season schools all made it past their Bi-District round in sweeping their District 26 counterparts.

Needville finished first in that district and was the team that placed a road block in last year’s playoff run for Canyon Lake.

These Brahmas will be bringing an, 18-8 record after beating Columbia two games to one in their Bi-District series.

What comes to mind was a recent situation during CL’s playoffs during the football post-season.

Canyon Lake was facing a 4th seeded team in Calhoun that would end up sending your Hawks home with a loss in that Area Round.

A first seed (CL)  being beat by a 4th seed was heartbreaking and with that memory happening last November might give this Hawk team a different way of approaching this series.

The biggest difference in those two situations is knowing that Bellville is not coming into this week’s games with a losing record and this team has won some headline games.

These Brahmas lost 7 starters and 11 players total to graduation last year and came out of the chute strong this season.

During Bellville’s non-district schedule they finished with a, 9-2-1 record and those two losses were against 6A schools. Eight of those teams made the playoffs and three won their district.

**Two Brahmas’ pitchers had no-hitters and adding up the records for those schools that were played, has this group of teams, finishing 36 games over .500 or a .559 winning percentage.

Peyton Reynolds (#11) and Cole Neumann (#1) have been used as their number 1 & 2 pitchers. Reynolds was one pitcher that had a no-hitter and is one that can get his fastball up to 88 mph and both pitchers attack the strikes-zone with first pitch strikes.

Bellville is not short on pitching either with Blake Linseisen (#2) who has a 3-2 record and pitched a no-hitter among 4 or 5 other players that have pitched this year.

Offensively Bellville is averaging 8 hits per outing resulting in a little over 7 runs a game. In their last 8 games without counting their two worse district teams these Brahmas, have been more pedestrian.

In those eight end of district and playoffs games has those averages going down, averaging 5 hits and 3 runs per outing during that stretch.

Defensively, Bellville, has committed 47 errors or almost 2 miscues a game and using those same metrics above also comes a 2 errors per game average.

Bellville has shown a knack of getting rallies of 3 or more runs in a inning on multiple occasions. Those rallies helped secure several wins and many of those were during the latter part of a contest.

Players that have led the Brahmas in hitting in multiple games is #4 Sr. Tyler Fishbeck (last year’s District Utility MVP) had 10 games with 2 or more hits. Fishbeck batted .397 and had 31 rbi in his previous year.

Sr. Linseisen has led in hitting 8 games and catcher Gavin Mays #3 leading in 7 battles.

Jr. Reynolds (4-1 & 2.18 era) and Linseisen (.382-8 doubles-24 rbi) both made First Team All-District in their last campaign.

Bottom line is that Bellville coming into this series as a 4th seeded team will not be an easy out by any stretch.

Friday Canyon Lake will meet Bellville in Marion with a 7:00pm start.
Saturday this Series will move to Caldwell for a 4:30pm first pitch.

If necessary that 3rd game will start 30 minutes later.
