Apocalypse Game Will Give Hawks a Reset Moment

Canyon Lake failed all three (offense/defense/special teams) phases in their Battle for the Devil’s Backbone suffering a, 60-6 loss.

A reset moment for this year’s club that will give fans and players a chance to change that ‘lucky’ shirt or underwear that they wear to help get that win…you know, that baseball manager who never steps on a base line when going out to talk with his pitcher. This opens the door for looking at new set of clothes for future games for future victories.
A chance to get those, cobwebs out of your head, moments and think back to a 2013 season when CL had just suffered a 62-0 set-back against Navarro after qualifying for the playoffs the week before in a win over Boerne.
That Hawk team would go two rounds in the playoffs after starting that season, 0-6 and then winning 4 of their final 6 battles.
On this night Wimberley converted a 4th and 2 yards needed play that set up their first drive and score which would have CL being down, 17-0 before they could take their 4th offensive snap with only 2 minutes left in the first stanza.
Wimberley would benefit having short field position throughout this contest with scoring drives covering 27-30-13-33-34-33 and 42 yards.

The Lake was throttled handily before a final drive and score for the Visitors when Caden Rodriguez skirted to the far sideline for his 72 yard jaunt to the end zone and only Hawk score on this night.
The Hawk’s last drive went 87 yards on 5 snaps that was highlighted by that Rodriguez 72 yard run which ranks 16th for distance as he tied James Bates’ 72 yard run against Lampasas during the 2019 season.
The last time this many points were scored on CLake was in 2013 when Navarro shut-out your Hawks, 62-00. It was the 4th most points given up in a contest as those other two games was during CL’s first season in 2008. Fredericksburg (65 points) and Blanco (63) points did those dirty deeds.

The key word above is ‘Devil’ in this Battle of the Backbone and looking at that final score and seeing that Wimberley was one touchdown away of making this a #66(-)6 which will have this ReSporter preparing for a rapture of a game against Fredericksburg next week for CL’s first home contest.
