Hawk’s Gold Win & Freshman Keep Improving in Loss
Canyon Lake Hawk’s Sub-Varsity showed improvement winning 2 of their 3 games in Fredericksburg on Thursday.
CL’s Gold (a blend of JV & Freshman) team won their first battle, 16-7 when they clinched this win to start their 4th quarter on a 6 yard run by Richard Anderson which stretched CL’s lead to 9 points that made this a 2 score lead and nice cushion.
Fredericksburg was not through and moved the ball 78 yards and had a 4th down play from the 3 yard line but Defense Lineman Colton Nelson put a kibosh on that last snap for the home team that had the Billies getting up from the pile two yards further from their desired goal.
The Hawks took possession and were able to move the ball for 2 first downs that had this Gold team taking victory snaps that ran out the clock.
It was Ayden Manzo who had a 12 yard run that clinched the game after the Hawks suffered a penalty that left a small smidgen of intrigue that was swiftly doused with CL Reality for the Billies and loss, 16-7.

The Freshman Hawks improved in many areas but still have a glaring propensity for getting serious during their 2nd Half. Slow starts and mistakes committed to the tune of 5 fumbles and losing 3, kept this Hawk team, without points for their 2nd contest. One of those fumbles was on a touchdown run resulting in no points.
Divan Hernandez is a load to tackle when he can get into the open which was a trait that started in those last two quarters. Hernandez finished with 65 yards that led the Hawks.
With a passing game which produced 69 yards with Peyton King catching 3 of those 4 passes that covered 43 yards was another glimmer. Slater Sutherland matched King’s 26 yard receipting as both players had success during the 4th quarter on CL’s final drive that finished on the Billies 15 yard line.
Glimmer’s can become an illuminating light and seeing the improvement for this team group should be fun to watch as the season matures.
The ReSporter had interviews on Instagram & Twitter with Hernandez and Offensive/Defensive Lineman John Fugate.
The Lake’s Freshman will be back in action next Thursday with another tough 5A Boerne Champion team….getting more sleep in the bus ride will need to be cut short so this group is wide awake to start this battle.
Let’s Wake Up and Go Hawks!!
