CL Hawks Recap Week of Sports & Football Standings/Stats

Canyon Lake Recaps past week of sports.

          Go Hawks & Fly High this year!!

First off, congrats to this year’s Water Polo team as they reached the playoffs in their 2nd year of existence.

Something to take note for this sport is knowing that The Lake is the smallest school enrollment wise in Texas. Yes, CL does not have a little brother and will always be against a larger school.

With that end do note that CL finished 3rd in district play and beat out Smithson Valley and Peiper which speaks volumes for this sport.

This group of players continued to improve during their season and the difference between last year and now is very visible.

Look forward to seeing what will be in store as this sport grows next year.

Volleyball had their first district win when they beat Fredericksburg, 3-1 last Tuesday. Canyon Lake has won 7 games and 3 of those wins were against schools that are presently residing in 1st Place in their district.

The Lake will have a home game against Bandera on Tuesday and then a road battle with Boerne on Friday. There are just 3 games left to play and CL’s last venture will be when Wimberley comes calling on October 24th.

Cross Country placed 3 athletes for Regions out of their district run last week as the Ladies finished just 5 points from qualifying their team with a 4th place finish.

A University of Houston commit Cadence Patterson (2nd) and Eva Zabarcencu (9th) both will be competing in the Regional Meet and Tristan Schenk finished 7th for the boys team which qualified for another run.

The Boy’s team finished in 5th place in their District race. The Region Meet will be in Kingsville on Monday October 23rd.

Football is down to 3 games and looking at the standings below you will notice a 2-2-2 scenario where two teams stand with a 2-0 record (Davenport & Lampasas), two teams at 1-1 (Canyon Lake & Burnet), and two teams with a 0-2 record (Marble Falls & Taylor.

So after this upcoming Friday slate of contests the only difference will be a clear undefeated leader and a clear winless cellar dweller.

Canyon Lake with a win will either be tied for 2nd are tied for 4th with a losing battle with Burnet.

Canyon Lake was never in their game against Davenport as they were looking at a 42 point deficit at halftime. This game had a ray of hope scoring 13 points in the 2nd half but the Hawk defense had a hard time getting stops in allowing 70 points.

This year will come down to this week having a chance to get back on track when the Burnet Bulldogs come to The Lake.

In last week’s loss Canyon Lake, for the first time since the slot-t was installed (2013), had more yardage via the airways vs. a run game.

Not a good sign for a winning formula with an added 3 turnovers which would be an equivalent of a Hawk flying over a gas flare and burning their wings.

Basically Canyon Lake might have to wait to be able to molt in time and able to fly after their feathers being damaged.
