CL Hawks Football Standings & Stats-Week-Recap
First things first we will start with CL’s Cross Country Trio who qualified for the State Meet. Cadence Patterson finished 2nd, Eva Zabercemci 10th, and Tristan Schenk 12th as those results is one more than the previous time two years ago.
The ReSporter will attempt to have interviews with them and will keep you updated.
Volleyball will have their final game tonight against Wimberley and then the Ladies Basketball team will start with another 1st time coach.
Boys Basketball will start one week after the Ladies get going.
Football: Canyon Lake’s backs are agains the wall this week with a must win contest with Taylor. Both teams are tied for 4th place and the winner will have that important tie-breaker if the teams finished their district slate with the same record.
This Duck team is a pass first offense which is one of CL’s biggest concerns after seeing Burnet pass for more yards against the Hawks than what they had combined coming into that battle.
This Lake’s season has had 4 games that are now on CL’s all-time top 10 in yards given up in a game since varsity play started in 2008. The Hawk defense has given up over 42 points per game while their offense has fallen off and presently averages 28 points.
Taylor’s run defense plays into CL’s strength so a methodical slot-t game taking up clock time with scores would be ideal. Canyon Lake’s defense would need to get enough stops to help with a win but this season defending the pass has led to a Lake team playing catch-up which many times will lead to a loss for a slot-t offense.
A lot of culprits in those numbers but none more than seeing players sporting medical boots to arm casts and everything else in between. Injuries have added to the Hawk’s woes and several starters not being able to contribute.
Davenport has the inside track after beating Lampasas 56-21 last week and Burnet will have their chance next and the tea leaves would not indicate that any school will be able to stop these Wolves as they are presently averaging 61.7 points per outing.
Taylor, with a win will end their regular season pitted against Burnet. This battle would go a couple of ways: 1) If CL beats Taylor then their Burnet match-up with a win would bunch 3 teams for those last two spots. 2) If Taylor beats CL then that battle would place the winner at 3rd and loser in the 4th place in district.
Canyon Lake has reached the playoffs 10 straight years and that streak certainly looks like it will be in jeopardy.
