HAWKS HOPING FOR PLAY-IN GAME FOR PLAY-OFF GAME
Three weeks ago, The Lake, had a myriad of ways for a chance to earn a right to make the post-season in Boys Basketball.
The Hawks did start their playoff last Friday when they had a ‘must win’ situation which in reality is what this time of year presents for having a chance being able to continue their season.
C-Lake was able to take that next step beating Navarro, 62-45 and that now the Hawk Nation is waiting results of the Boerne/Bandera game this Tuesday (Feb. 13th).
If Bandera can pull off a win then Canyon Lake will need to wait another year… but the chances of having a play-in contest has the odds on Canyon Lake’s side based on Boerne coming into this battle undefeated and 12th ranked based on tabchoops.org.
In this Hawk’s Navarro win, Carter Williams finished with his 6th double-double this year finishing with 17 points and 14 rebounds. As a team, CLHS topped 42 rebounds with Mario Aguilar (11) bounds.
This game CL got separation after the Panthers tied the score 7 all with 5:30 left in the quarter. In dominant fashion The Lake finished this opening period with a, 11-2 stretch.
During this season, Canyon Lake’s worse two quarters have been the 2nd & 3rd stanzas…so it was good to see CL fashioning a 16-8 quarter and halftime, 34-17 advantage.
That dominance would continue as these Hawks increased the lead to 23 points to end the 3rd period when Aguilar sank two free throws, 50-27.
CL’s largest lead was 25 points to start the last 8 minutes before Navarro’s last rush closing the gap with a Hawk 17 point victory, 62-45.
CLHS would use their bench depth after seeing a Logan Lewis pass to Ryan Alvarez for two points that brought the Hawk bench to their feet and final score conclusion.
The Hawk bench ended this contest scoring 18 points as Coach Monte Cole used different line-ups to fine-tune this game with an anticipated game with Bandera.
It will be known late Tuesday night when Canyon Lake finds out if they can continue their pre-playoff-playoff run with another win against those Bandera Bulldogs.
Keep in touch with The ReSporter as we post the date and time of CLHS next game if warranted.
If CLHS Boy’s Basketball team is fortunate to play this week it will represent the 500th game in Hawk history. A chance to start that next 500 contests with a special win that will have CL making their 5th year in the playoffs.
A bit of forward thinking has this possibility (using the Jethro Bodine math formulas) for the Bi-District round if CL can be so inclined in taking care of business against Bandera.
Let’s Go Hawks!!
