The Lake’s Area Soccer Champs for 3rd Time in 4 Years
Canyon Lake’s Lady Soccer team has entered their 3rd round in the playoffs beating JFK with an unrelenting offense coupled with a smothering defensive effort.
The Hawks will now face a District 26-4A foe in Davenport after already splitting with these Wolves this season, April 2nd.
The Lake faced Boerne during a 3rd round in their 2022 playoff season and missed Regions by one goal loss, 2-1.
CL’s District 26-4A and the 29-4A Schools have yet to lose a game as both districts have the 1st & 4th seed and 2nd & 3rd seeds facing off for a chance to continue this win or go home time of the schedule.
CL’s Girls Soccer has made the playoffs starting with the 2010 season and this will be there 3rd time to play for a Region Berth.
Those other two seasons (2021-22) both ended with a Greyhound loss and by continuing to knock on that door could hopefully be this go-around facing Davenport. This young Hawk club comes into this battle matching that 2021 season with 16 wins but this time sporting their best ever winning percentage .727.
If you were one of the Hawk fans attending this Area match-up and happened to be one minute late then you would have missed CL’s first goal. Savanna Olberholtzer scored one of her 5 goals after an assist from Madison Snipes and then a nifty two step dribble resulting for a one on one kick that found the back of the net.
The Lake scored again one minute later when Kylee Morrow’s assist found a streaking Olberholtzer again with that same result.
Canyon Lake’s last goal of the first half was when Snipes had a free kick bout 25 yards out that had cleared the wall and with a slight curve cleared the goal keeper into the upper left side of the net at the 13:24 mark. A perfect spot which was CL’s motif in this win….Perfect.
With a 4-0 advantage starting the 2nd half Canyon Lake had a quick score one minute into this stanza when Morrow scored her first of two consecutive goals with her next coming 4 minutes later.
Olberholtzer would end the scoring with her final goal with 32:35 minutes remaining that put this game on ice scoring just one minute later, 8-0.
The Hawks finished this contest giving every player time on the field as they readied themselves for their next formidable opponent and District 26-4A Champion, Davenport Wolves.
“There were some tactics we wanted to input into this game that would help prepare us for the next game…knowing that those same tactics would work with this opponent and help us with the next one,” Head Coach Kara Stracener said.
Now a chance to kick in the door for a Region berth….
