Volleyball: The Lake Discombobulate Poth in Win, 3-2

Gabby Fory and teammate go for the Block against Poth.

Canyon Lake’s Volleyball team finished strong after starting their game with two set losses before finding their mojo and winning the next 3 sets for the 6-2 Hawks, 21-25 26-28 25-16 25-22 and 15-8.

Go Hawks & Way to Fly High!!

This was the first 5 set home win for CLake since a 3-2 battle over Liberty Hill on August 7th 2018.

The Hawk’s depth helped discombobulate the Pirates as each set had the Hawks getting in sync that led to this comeback.

This Lake team makes it hard to pick the most valuable player as there were blocks, digs, assists, and kills galore that has Coach Daniella Villarreal not having a drop off whenever a substitute is called on entering a contest.

These Pirates took the opening salvo and never trailed during this set. Poth set the stage by keeping a 2 to 4 point lead throughout while CL just could not find any traction.

In that second set, The Lake, took the lead after that first serve and stretched the lead to 5 points leading, 16-11. Then Poth closed the gap late scoring 6 of the last 9 points that had the Hawks staring at a 2-0 deficit in this best of 5 marathon.

                        Let’s GO HAWKS!!

It was now a win or go home scenario that Canyon Lake faced only trailing, 2-1 before unleashing a convincing, 25-16 staying alive bout. Outscoring the Visitors, 9-2 to close this win.

Poth rebounded and took a, 5-1 lead in that 4th set but The Lake would seize the lead, 10-9 and never looked back to tie the game at two all.

Gabby Fory had a 5 point service that had Remi Guzman with a block and kill during that run showing off the Home team’s depth.

That final set saw Izzy Fory serving that put CL up, 11-1 while Brooklyn Andrews with two critical kills to help seal the deal.

Stay in Shape Hawks!

On what Coach Villarreal said to the team before starting that 3rd win or die set, “I told them that my Senior year that we were in that same type of game at state when we were down two sets and how we came back and this became like an energy momentum thing and I don’t know if this was a first day of school thing with being full of distractions or what but it was hard for us to be on the same page. I told them we have to do a better job of connecting and it just clicked and we kept going.”

Coach continued talking bout what the team did to turn it around, “Yeah we made a few switches with the line-up but it was more like our energy but I, trying to be silly, and I told the girls they need to smile more and look at each other and laugh and maybe push each other to get high and little things like that and then it started to roll and we started playing a lot better.”

Canyon Lake ‘Hawk’ Proud!!

With the Pieper Tourney up next The Lake will face two teams (Harlan & Alexander) with a combined, 16-3 record on that first day so getting back to work will be needed to keep discombobulating more opponents!

Let’s Go Hawks!!
