CL Hawks Have Growing Pains Loss to Texans, 46-0
Growing pains is what the Hawk fans have gone through many times in their life…usually it comes more at a young age…..well that is where Canyon Lake’s Football team finds themselves as this season started against a well established football school.
Canyon Lake started this game under a buzz saw called Wimberley Texans a team ranked 5th in the State 4A Division II classification.
Growing pains saw all three phases of this year’s start to the season contributing in some fashion to this loss.
A special team snafu on a punting play that led to a 7 yard drive and a Texan score halfway into the opening quarter. Growing Pains…
This was after a Hawk defensive stop and then a Hawk resilient offense reaching the midfield stripe which had this game looking positive.
A Wimberley defensive stop tho, led to that fateful 4th down play, that would start this night’s downfall.
The Lake could not get enough stops and adding a multiple number of turnovers to a formula led to a final, 46-0 loss. Growing Pains…
“They are a good football team…Coach Warren (Wimberley’s Head Coach) has been there for a long time and they have built what we are trying build,” Coach Sam Parker recapped. “We are in a first year program and they’re in a twelve year program…..we have a long way to go but regardless of the situation we are going to keep fighting and the kids fought to the very end and I’m proud of the kids.”
Coach Parker continued, “We have to do a better job of coaching and have to do a better job of putting them (the team) in s good spot to win.”
On what the team will do in preparing for The Lake’s home opener against Austin Crockett next Friday Coach Parker closed, “We will keep learning and keep figuring it out just like we did in our first scrimmage after Burnet and figure out what we did right and wrong and try to minimize those mistakes.”
A lot of players had a chance getting on the field which is what the doctor ordered as this one game does not mean a season but a stepping stone for positive future battles.
A huge Hawk fan contingent in attendance for this short drive over the Back-Bone and just like the swaying of Highway 32 at the back-bone had the CL faithful know that those ebbs are always followed by those flows. Growing Pains always brings Growth.
So here’s hoping for fewer ebbs and more flows as this season continues.
Let’s Go Hawks!!
