CL Finishes with 4-1 Blanco Tourney Record
Canyon Lake Hawks had a good run at the Blanco Softball Tournament that

concluded Saturday in the Championship Round.
The Hawks disposed of Johnson City, Ingram, Poth and Lago Vista, before meeting up to a very good Llano team.
Canyon Lake has a lot of youth on board and getting this much action in over a two day period will only pay dividends. A lineup with only two Seniors will require some help and leadership from the players that might have just one year of Varsity ball.
The Poth game had a lot of meaning for Canyon Lake as they had been eliminated the last two years by this team.
“I was really pumped up for the Poth game,” Pitcher Missy Romero said. “It was time for some pay back!”
The Hawks finished off Lago Vista in the Saturday morning game, 10-0. The Pirates found it hard to find any water on this blustery day.
With the wind gusting up to 30 miles an hour, the Blanco diamond had the wind right in the face of the pitchers.
“That gave me an advantage with my breaking ball,” Romero quipped. “But I have to tell the defense that the ball should move more.”
Canyon Lake had every player but two with hits in the game as the Pirate pitcher was battling the wind and grew tired. The Hawks run ruled LV with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Second Baseman Cassidy Riccio
Romero was on her ‘A’ game as she only pitched six balls for the whole game.
Cassidy Riccio did a little of everything in this game. Riccio was #1, in that she had one run, one hit, one RBI, one double, one base on ball, and one sacrifice hit.
Riccio also had a magnet in her glove as she caught a bullet at second place in the third inning.
“Last year I was in a slump,” Riccio said calmly. “Now I feel I’m coming out of it.”
On the catch, “I’m feeling more comfortable at second than I did as catcher…second base is where I have played more.”
Kelsey Ahrens also got some valuable time in the circle, as she won her first game against Ingram on Thursday. Ahrens was also called upon in the final game with Llano.
Canyon Lake’s next game will be at Luling on Tuesday, then the Hawks will play in their last tournament in Marion before District 26-3A starts with Boerne on March 20th at Canyon Lake.
