Canyon Lake’s schedule will not be a busy week but a very important for both Volleyball & Football.
CL’s Volleyball Crew will have their first post-season berth since 2019 with a home game this Thursday against Legacy Ranch (19-11).
Football comes out of their bye week with a date with 5th Ranked Davenport at the Wolves Den this Friday.
A Hawk win over Davenport will give CLake a chance to share the district title with a tie breaker over Davenport who has already clinched a 1st place finish.
Both Sub-Varsity teams will have their final home game this Thursday.
Volleyball has a decent chance of advancing as both Legacy and CLake have two teams that are common opponents with an even record as both teams beat Akins and lost to Wimberley.
With a home court advantage that could give an even match in favor for your Hawks.
On what Head Coach Danielle Villarreal thoughts before facing the Texans in their last regular contest, “For our game tonight, I’m really excited for the girls to compete against Wimberley and face high-level competition. Playing teams like Wimberley and Davenport provide great preparation heading into playoffs. I believe one of our biggest advantages is that our district schedule consistently challenges us, so when we face strong playoff opponents, we’ll be ready and comfortable competing at a high level.”
Those words come based on The Lake playing in one of the toughest districts compared to the competition Legacy Ranch was up against in their district.
On Coach’s assessment having achieved one of their season goals with a post-season invitation, “As for playoffs, I couldn’t be more excited for the girls and the opportunity for them to experience the postseason. It’s such an exciting time, and we’ll be practicing and preparing to make sure we’re sharp both in our play and in our team chemistry. We’re hoping to keep extending our season and enjoy every bit of time we get together as a team!”
One attribute with this year’s edition is the balance in the skill set with several players that have raised their skill set giving Coach Villarreal a plethora of options in closing out teams.
For the category on Digs, CL has four athletes who has topped 200 for this season led by All-Time Hawk Digster, Kylie Rodriguez leading with 274 and followed closely with Izzy Fory (266), Chloe Gray (242) and Sabrina Steele (207).
Chloe Gray was the set queen once again topping the charts garnering 725 this season added with 6 other Hawks that ended with double digits in this category which is a rarity but speaks to that comment above on how many other players have chipped in during this season.
Sophomore Kylee Goff led with 31 blocks with Gabby Fory next in line finishing with 24 with 3 other Lakesters also with double digit blocks. Te’a Gonzales (17), Kinsley Van Meter (16), and Preslie Owens (13).
Owens started staring for these Hawks bout 10 games into this season in finishing volleys with 217 kills. This category also has three other players in double digits. Rodriguez (183), Chloe Gray (152), and Gabby Fory (151).
The Lake also has two Sophomores knocking on arriving in triple digits with lefty Gonzales (91) and Goff (87) once again showing how many weapons are on this club.
Aces has Izzy Fory and Rodriguez each with 41 with 6 more Hawks with double digits. Bottom line the depth throughout this line-up has seldom been seen in Volleyball to this degree.
So now it will be up to the Hawk Nation to be in attendance this Thursday to help give this Lake team the support to fly high and get a victory and another date for a chance to continue this season of win or go home.
Let’s GO LAKE!
