Lake’s Lady Soccer Beat Legacy Ranch, 5-3 in Extra Time.

The Lake’s Soccer Team with another Bi-District Trophy & Looking for an Area Trophy next.

          Way to Go Lake Soccer!

Canyon Lake’s (20-2) Soccer team won Bi-District in overtime over Legacy Ranch (17-5-1), 5-3 in what turned out to be a good test run for this time of the year in a, win or go home’, time of the season.

Head Coach Kara Stracener commented on this win and the differences in LR’s offense,
“We haven’t played a team that played with that formation where they had two wide players and a center…they had 3 across the top….so we knew about it going into the game but then when you see it you just have to re-adjust and at halftime we certainly talked about that and we changed some of our formations and put some girls where we needed to and they adjusted great but more importantly they battled and played with their heart in this kind of game you have to do that.”

Coach Stracener continued on how important Liza Schexnayder goal-tended, “She was unbelievable….she is brand new to soccer and she’s learning throughout the whole season and against Bandera our second time she came out and made a very physical save and had to take a player as she was taking the ball and I think that type of moment from her was huge and she felt what is was like so she could do it in this game….and she did that four or maybe five times and she was a hero tonight for sure.”

             Go Lake Beat Everyone!

The Lake had never scored more than 100 goals in a season since the school began in soccer in 2008-09 year.

Two years ago CL was able to reach 93 goals…but now Savanna Oberholtzer with her 61 makes has scored 59% of this offense.

All those numbers are mind blowing but in the grand scheme of things that first goal in this battle had Abigail Lowth with a goal which was a head(er) and should(ers) as great, at the 36 minute mark, during that first half.

Then, that first goal in overtime, it was Kylee Morrow who had a 27 yard pk that just went over the Legacy Ranch goalie hands on the left corner of the upper shelf of the net.

                              Go Lake!

The Hawks never trailed in this contest and the score was a narrow, 3-2 at halftime lead.

In that 2nd Half both teams were more defensive minded but it was Ranch with a tying goal right under 10 minutes remaining, 3-3.

It was Goalie Liza Schexnayder who battened down the Hawk goal as she won several one on one shots on goal from the 15 yard line on down.

The Lake would not have been in a position to pull this game off without her unwavering defensive skills and her bumps and bruises in the days to come will prove her worth in this battle.

District 26-4A has been a formidable group of teams these past few years in looking back to last year when both Wimberley & Davenport being present in the Final Four in Division I and II.

Go Hawks & Beat SA Cole!

The Lake’s, 2-1 loss last season to London just kept Canyon Lake from meeting Wimberley for that berth into the Final Four.

All of these district qualifying teams won their Bi-District round of games and once again stand a good chance of getting two more schools in for a chance to win state.

Canyon Lake’s Area contest will be at Smithson Valley High School this coming Tuesday against San Antonio Cole (20-4-4) at 7:00pm.

The Hawks have reached 20 wins for the first time to go along with breaking that 100 goals scored mark. Now keeping this Post-Season focused will be next on the docket as Wimberley could be that final hurdle in getting to Austin.
