Hawk’s Baseball Get Must Game Win Over Billies, 6-2
The Lake got a win on a, must win week, over Fredericksburg, 6-2 as Canyon Lake scored all the runs needed during their opening inning.
That first frame was the CL’s first run scored in district play that had a double off Ryan Rena’s bat helping cap those tallies. Rena had his 15th double that moved him up to 10th place on the Top-Ten Career list.
Some more power was next with two solo shots of the bat of Lucas Schexnayder and Wayen Slania-Wetz who yard over the left field fence. Slania-Wetz (4) now stands at 5th place on CL’s all-time homer standings.
Pitcher Hayes Holladay was money on the mound striking out 7 Billies while giving up two walks….and a little let down with three hit batters. This win has Holladay at 10th place with 6 career wins.
A solid defense helped calm down the base paths that was present… which had this Hawk version needed for the rest of this campaign that has 3 contests remaining with a return date to Billie land this Friday.
The Lake will conclude district play against Bandera which lately has not been a show-up and win contest.
Gram Simpson continues his strong showing at lead-off working two walks which has tied for the most in a career 63 joined bt Tyler Pauly and Carter Williams.
Simpson’s first at bat set the stage when the Billie’s pitcher had two called strikes before working the pitch count to 8 and a walk and eventual score.
Now the stage is set for another showdown this Friday in Freddie for a hopeful sweep.
