Track: Coaches Corner and CL Track Talk

The ReSporter: Pretty impressive to be able to improve in all three of the

relays…what are the guys doing that has given these type of results?

Coach Montgomery: “The boys work very hard in practice, and we have done a good job of ensuring that we do not overtrain. We have to balance their track with their weightlifting.”

The ReSporter: Jaaz McNair improved his Shot Put throw by almost three feet…can you tell us what his technique might have been to improve that much in just one week?

Coach Montgomery: “He has been doing well in practice, and he got off a good throw in Dripping Springs. No real changes in technique.”

The ReSporter: It seems that Jordan Anderson performs well in three to four events each week, but still can’t hit the homerun in all five events, what is he working on that will allow him to have his peak performance?

Coach Montgomery: “Wait until district. It’s very tough to pull a ‘homerun’ in five events, but Jordan will do his best at district.”

The ReSporter: Or in other words, does the District track meet allow him to do better since it will be conducted in two days?

Coach Montgomery: “He still has to deal with the prelims on Tuesday, so he will be extremely busy.”

The ReSporter: “Marcus Bolles seems to have hit a wall on the pole vault with the 13 foot marker…what can he do to break that barrier?

Coach Montgomery: “He’s an experienced vaulter, and I expect him to perform his best at district.”

DISTRICT 26-3A WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE UPCOMING TRACK MEET
These points are based on present times. (100, 200, 400 Meter Runs)
Canyon Lake     35
Fredericksburg  30
Boerne               12
Bandera               7
Wimberley           6
Navarro                3

The ReSporter would like you to know what Athletes will be performing and what to watch for in the results.

100 Meter Dash:

This is going to be a Jordan Anderson event. Sultemeier is the biggest threat to Anderson with a best of 11.06 time this season. That was recent, run at the end of March in Marble Falls. Koch with Boerne ran his 11.30 early in March, so that would indicate that might have been a one and done event. In fact all the runners from third place to sixth place had their best time for the event during that same time frame.

So the event might be a two person race with all the other runners best time being on March 8th or earlier, which really makes the third through sixth place up for grabs.

200 Meter Dash:

This race best races have been performed in a more recent time frame than what we saw with the 100 Meter Run.

Jordan Anderson once again is the man to beat with a best of 22.47 which also was last week, which would indicate the half second lead over the next athlete Enderline with Fredericksburg. Sultemeier is also in this mix giving three runners to watch for in the running of this dash.

Canyon Lake has a chance with Walker having a best of 24.40 time, but he would have to pass four other runners and his improvement would have to be a half second better giving you a good idea that he would be out of this running maybe giving Coach Levi Montgomery of running Walker in the JV field.

400 Meter Dash:

This race will have five of the six schools represented with a potential of acquiring points.

Anderson (where have you heard or read that name before?) will have the best time going into the meet. He brought his time down in last week’s Tiger Relays and now has approx. a half second lead on Dale with Fredericksburg.

After those two, the next fastest time is over one second slower. Neff with Bandera, Welch with Boerne, and Jaroszewski with Navarro will be competing for the third place based on the times that have been recorded so far.

Mitchell with Canyon Lake has the tenth best time in District and might have too much to time to improve to make the scoring column…but that is why they run the races.

The Sprints will be controlled by Canyon Lake and Fredericksburg and these two teams will distance themselves from the other schools as the meet progresses.

The ReSporter will have a report on the Distance races Friday.
