Hawks Secure Play-offs with a, 3-1 Win over Billies

Canyon Lake had a rinse and repeat victory over Fredericksburg last Friday when the Volleyball squad spotted Billies the first set and then proceeded to sweep this foe to win a play-off spot much like happened during that first district round, 3-1 win.
Head Coach Daniella Villarreal was quick with her response, “I am incredibly proud of the way our girls responded after losing the first set. We focused on playing hard, staying mentally tough, and controlling what we could on our side of the net. With four players out with an injury, every single girl stepped up, embraced her role, and contributed to our win. It was a true team effort, and our players refused to let adversity stand in the way of our goals. The way they fought together and continued to compete throughout the entire match says a lot about their character and resilience.”
Many of these Hawk players have raised their all-in resolve this season to battle through this season’s injuries which speaks volumes for this year’s depth due to such a strong Freshman class of players.
Hence with Varsity~Gold~Green teams each with freshman players. It was Freshman Presley Wheeler who has highlighted this year as a setter and proved to be a versatile player with her triple double with 14 kills, 31 assists and 11 digs in this Fredericksburg victory.
Coach Villarreal spoke about Wheeler and other players who came together for this win, “Despite playing setter, Wheeler became the team’s leading attacker, creating offensive opportunities from both the front and back rows. Her ability to impact the game in so many ways was a tremendous accomplishment for a freshman.”
Coach continued, “Kylee Goff led the team’s hitters with 13 kills and an impressive .357 hitting percentage, providing a major offensive spark throughout the match. Goff was unstoppable with her attacks and pounding the ball on the floor to end the rallies. Defensively, Izzy (Fory) led the team with 22 digs, showcasing the grit, determination, and relentless effort that helped keep the team in the match.”
A tough last two games with a home game against Kerrville that will start this week on Tuesday…in hopes of pulling off an upset. Now these Hawks start to smooth out their game in preparation for another playoff run.
Way to GO LAKE!
