Hawk Freshman Win District Championship ~ ~ Beat Tivy, 35-27

The Lake Freshman ran out to a quick, 28-0 lead over Kerrville Tivy and then held on with a win clinching CL’s District 13-4A Championship.
This Freshman team has one more game against Dripping Springs due to Austin schools not having enough players to field an extra team next week.
So, this season, Canyon Lake has been doubling up their pleasure with two wins against Fredericksburg and Tivy.
Coach Heath McDonough commented, “I am super proud of the men this year and Coach Self and I are excited to watch them continue to grow.”
The ReSporter interviewed #77 Alexander Van Pelt who shared his measurements and this offensive lineman has already taken Coach McDonough’s words to task after growing 2 inches up to 6’2 and his braun now weighing 233lbs.

This group of Freshman have literally changed over night going from a decent record last season that sustain three losses.
Now, with another year working on their game the future is starting to take on a different horizon.
Running Back Isaac Torres broke the 1,000 yard metric on an 18 yard scamper through and around a ton of Kerrville Antlers right at the end of the third quarter and now stands with 1,056 with one game remaining.
Torres finished this battle with 143 rushing yards and 85 through the air while scoring 3 touchdowns by air and foot.

Torres has reached 100 yards or more 7 games in a row after starting this season with a 66 yard day in a win over Marble Falls.
Coen Vanlandingham finished with 193 passing yards on 9 receptions.
It took 6 plays on CL’s first drive to score on a Torres 3 yard run. The Lake would never trail….but would continue this opening onslaught scoring on 4 consecutive drives and 28-0 lead.
Tivy would awaken in that 2nd quarter on a 64 yard pass play and another pass play for 18 yards with 2 minutes before halftime.
Kerrville’s first drive of the second half took 18 plays and scored making this contest way to interesting with a Hawk, 28-21 lead.
That drive was 3 minutes short of taking the whole quarter as The Lake used their next drive starting in that third frame and finished with six minutes on the clock in the fourth on a Vanlandingham 1 yard plunge and Hawk, 35-21 lead.
Tivy would score again after their interception and then a touchdown 9 plays later…but a missed extra point kept the lead to 8 points, 35-27.
Canyon Lake would gift another turnover…this time a fumble but Nash Cason would seal the deal with an interception as Tivy was knocking on the door.
Then it would be a Hang the Banner time for Canyon Lake Freshman District Champions!
Way to Go Lake!
