Canyon Lake Track and Field-Jordan Anderson
Jordan Anderson takes Track and Field seriously.
The young man runs three sprint and two field events. That can lead to a very tiring day on the cinders, especially when you consider that for District 26-3A Meet being held at Canyon Lake next week, there will be several prelims to whittle down the field to eight sprinters.
Anderson has upped the ante on all his races and field events this season and in so doing has given himself a good chance of getting to the Regional Meet in all five events.
Last season Anderson was not prepared for the newness of running in a meet that had the best athletes from Region 4.
An area that goes from Liberty Hill down to Harlingen.
“Last year I stayed awake till 3am thinking that I would not start until late in the morning,” Anderson sprinted his first answer. “I was hanging with guys that ran the sprints like me, but was not participating in field events. When I found out that I had to be at the track earlier, it gave me only three hours of sleep for the first day.”
Sophomore mistake that will probably not be repeated this year.
“I feel the most confident on the high jump,” Anderson responded on which of the five events he is feeling the best at so far this season.
Anderson has the best Canyon Lake mark in four of the five events he participates in and the one he does not hold the best time or distance in is the High Jump.
When checking out the best times in the region, Anderson is near the top in all the events he runs. The difference will be the amount of events he would do versus his competitors.
You could have one athlete that specializes in the 400 meter dash, while Anderson could be out on the track for four other events before he faces the 400 meter runner.
That would be tough for any athlete to pull off.
“The district meet will be more rapid pace than what I have been doing thus far,” Anderson warmed up. “I only have to be in the top eight times to make it to the finals.”
Good strategy for the Hawk that has more points than any other trackster in the short history of the school.
When the fans come out to the meet this next week, this young man will be everywhere trying to score as many points for CL that he can.
Earlier this season, Anderson, gave his medals from a disappointing track meet to Coach because of being disappointed in his times for that particular outing.
“I did not want them,” Anderson jumped over the question. “But it has made me more motivated this season.”
Motivation will have to be in big supply as well as other juices for Anderson to pull off a rare event in trying to qualify for the Region Meet in five separate venues.
Anderson would be a can’t miss as you parlay to the Track this week.
The ReSporter would also like to continue the break down of the four different areas of Track and Field. A couple of days ago, the ReSporter went through the Sprints and next will be the Distance events.
This is a guide in giving the fans a focus of what to watch for with Canyon Lake as well as other athletes from our district.
Canyon Lake was the number one team in the Sprints, but the Distance Runs are not Hawk material, in fact, you are about to hear a lot about Fredericksburg Billies.
The ReSporter will break down the 800, 1600, and 3200 meter runs.
In the 800 Meter run Canyon Lake has not had any runners break into the scoring column yet this season..
Fredericksburg has three runners that are in the top six runners. This race will be a close one with Settles with a 2:00.27 best so far. Settles is followed closely by Holliman from Wimberley and Lema with Bandera.
For Canyon Lake to have any chance for the team title, the ‘other’ schools will have to score high and push Fredericksburg lower down on the point scale.
There is one other non-Billie runner from Boerne named Pedrotti and if he can run his best meet, then that will help CL’s cause immensely.
The Mile or 1600 Meter run is also dominated by Billies. Four of the top six athletes are Billies which will give Fredericksburg multiple points.
Porter (4:39.21) will be the Billie that will be fun to watch as he has a 10 second lead over his teammate Kidwell.
The only other district runner with a chance to upset the Billie momentum will be Luevano from Boerne with a very respectable 4:51.81 and about five seconds better than another Billie.
One other thing about the 1600 Meter run, is that Fredericksburg will only be allowed to have three runners in the race that will open up another spot other teams.
Chris Neiland for Canyon Lake will be competing for those point. Neiland broke the Canyon Lake record in the 1600 Meter Run earlier this season and is only two seconds from breaking the coveted five minute mark.
The 3200 Meter Run is also dominated by Billies, but now Neiland from Canyon Lake can break into a higher point total for the good guys.
As of this writing, this is the weakest event as far as having very many District 26-3A runners scoring points in meets this season. Besides Fredericksburg’s four runners and Canyon Lake’s Neiland, there is not anyway of telling who the other runners that could score in this event.
Once again Porter broke the 10 minute mark in his last meet and he is a comfortable 30 seconds of his teammates.
