Girls Track Breakdown: Distance & Hurdles

After going over the Sprint Events earlier, The ReSporter will now delve into Distance

and Hurdle events from the District 26-3A schools.

At our last writing, Fredericksburg had 31 points with Wimberley and Bandera close behind scoring 25 and 18 respectively.

To go over how this evaluation transpires: The ReSporter has dug up as many of the Track Meets from all the schools and have put the results in a competition against each district team.

This will give you a good idea of how the Meet will unfold this coming week. If there is one constant for Track is that all the runners will run against the clock and this will give you a good way of seeing the event finish.

Athletes times should be constant in theory no matter where they are running. However there will also be different weather patterns and running against tougher competition will equate to better times and distances.

800 METER RUN:

First place and third place will be the exciting part about this run. Mangold (Bandera) and Torres (Navarro)  only have 0.08 between them.

Hannah Graves will be in a fight against some Billies for that qualifying chance to go to Corpus.

All of these runners are within a second of each other and with this race going around the track twice will put some strategy into how these girls run their laps.

1600 METER RUN:

Another close run based on times run throughout this season.

Torres for Bandera and Sanchez (Billies) both have times that are separated by 0.16 of a second.

Once again, with a race that circles the track four times, these two girls will be in a chess match waiting to make their move.

Olivia Flores should score some points for Canyon Lake as she has a decent chance for a fourth to sixth place finish.

3200 METER RUN:

Another race that will be hard to decipher. The top six runners are well below the 13 minute mark.

Spier running for Navarro will be in a good race against Reed with Fredericksburg for first and second, but the next four runners will be a battle royal for a chance to the Regions.

There are no Hawks that have scored in this event this season.

100 METER HURDLES:

Bowman with Wimberley should have this race. Her 16.17 time is more than enough to win the race.

The fun (or hurtful) thing about this race is that a hurdle can come up at anytime and trip you up.

Five of the other runners have also been under 17 seconds and will be a good battle for going to Corpus.

Canyon Lake has Marcie Marple, but an injury has had her sidelined for most of the season. She is expected back for this Meet, but not being in meet form might be to big of a detriment.

Still, her experience from last season tells you that she can excel with the right situation.

300 METER RUN:

Marple ran a decent time in the Blanco Meet over six weeks ago, but once again the injury might hamper her run. However, she is close enough and the race is long enough to give her a decent chance to make some noise this week.

Smith (Billies) is the favorite as the only athlete to break the 48 second barrier. Tucker with Boerne is also the only runner besides Smith to break the 49 second hurdle.

This is what will make this a fun race to watch as there are several runners (including Marple) that could squeeze into third and getting a ticket to Corpus (Regional Meet).
