Canyon Lake Boy’s Track Continues Trek

The Hawk Track team finished third in the Wimberley Track field last Thursday, March 24th, scoring 97 points.

The teams placing first and second were 4A schools, Dripping Springs and Lehman.

The Hawks not only fault the teams but the wind was brutal. The relays and athletes still came through.

“We were encouraged with the way the relays performed,” Head Coach Levi Montgomery said. “(Daniel) Camarillo did a good job filling in for (Zach) Henshaw, and overall we feel that we are in a position to be successful in all three relays at district.”

Senior Bobby Flint pulled out of some races after suffering an injury and added to that Zach Henshaw will also be out for the next couple of weeks.

“Bobby was not yet completely confident that his hamstring had fully recovered,” Coach Montgomery stated. “He is a very experienced athlete and knows how to handle this. He’ll be ready by district.”

Last year the field events were one of the areas the Hawks were going to improve on.

“We have had more kids interested in the field events this year,” Montgomery continued. “Each week we have gotten stronger in the field events, and as the boys see their teammates being successful they too want to give it a shot. As a result we have gotten better because we have more kids competing.”

The Hawks are always trying to figure out the best way to pile on more points and the team seems to have a lot of athletes to choose from.

“I feel we have good balance with the number of events we have our boys in,” Coach Montgomery finished. “Our overall numbers continue to climb. When you take 56 boys to a track meet like we did at Wimberley you have to balance everything out.”
