Bracken’s Grady Achilles Signs to Play for Incarnate Word
Senior Grady Achilles has his next ‘Rung’ in his ladder complete when he signed an
Athletic Scholarship with Incarnate Word.
The ReSporter would like to share the numbers this young man accomplished in his four years of playing football for Bracken.
The Seniors that graduate with Achilles had a 44-6 record with three of those six losses as a result of losing in the playoffs.
Let’s take the 2010 season and put Grady’s yardage in perspective.
For the 2010 Year: Grady Achilles scored 62 Rushing Touchdowns and averaged 29.3 yards per TD.
Fourteen of those touchdowns were from 50 yards or longer runs. Grady rushed for 1817 yards on those 62 scores.
Now you can understand how valuable this young athlete was for Bracken Christian.

The above stats are just the tip of the iceberg for this outstanding athlete.
Grady Achilles handled himself with poise and character throughout the last three seasons while the ReSporter has been covering his exploits.
The knock on 6-man football players is how college teams evaluate the athlete. It is hard to transfer the above numbers into 11-man football.
Achilles does has one trait that is easy to transfer into any sport. Speed!!
Achilles has already won District 100 and 200 Meter Dash and will be in the process of defending his State Championship in these two events in the next couple of weeks.
“I will try out all over,” Achilles said when asked what position he might be playing. “I’m excited about not having to play every position, and my speed will help me get used to playing. This is a whole new program and I’m starting over, I’m kind of on my first lap.”
Achilles talks as if he is immersed in track season.
“He deserves all that comes to him,” Bracken Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “He chose to play six-man football and he could of easily played and been successful if he would of played 11-man football.”
Grady Achillies has been a joy to cover the last three years and their will be as much joy for his parents and fans to watch him play in the college ranks now.
“He picked a great college and it is close to home,” Tommy Achilles (Dad and Former Coach) chimed in on the ability to watch Grady’s brother (Eli) and Grady on the same weekend.
The question is simple. How many yards does an athlete need to produce before you become impressed with the accomplishments and the ability to play at the next level.
Looking above at the stats for Grady Achilles and you might have to come to the conclusion that he will be able to help your program.
Thanks for giving Bracken Christian a lot of great memories and it will be only a matter of time when Incarnate Word will be saying the same thing.
