Baseball Greyhounds Race by Hawks, 11-1
Canyon Lake could not get out of the ‘canyon’ they dug themselves into after allowing six runs in the first inning against Boerne last Friday night at the Hawk diamond.
The strike zone was missing in action at the start of the game and the Hawks could not climb out, as they lost in a shortened game because of the 10 run rule.
“The difference in the last two games was jumping out to a four run lead against Navarro and giving up a six runs in the first inning to Boerne,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant said.
The Hawks were led offensively by Zach Jenkins with two hits and a double off the bat of Kyler Huff.
Huff has acquired some power with a homerun in the game against Navarro earlier in the week.
The offense could not combine enough hits to stage a rally and now must regroup as they start the second round of district play.
The Hawks will try to get a payback game against Bandera this Tuesday on the road. A win will put Canyon Lake back in the thick of the playoff race.
“I feel we will get ‘em,” Coach Dunavant said. “We have to play them one game at a time.”
The Hawks are not out of the race yet and a few breaks here or there can make this year a memorable one.
