Football: Coaches Corner with Bracken’s Lloyd Fields

The ReSporter caught up with Head Coach Lloyd Fields during his open week for a state of the

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

Bracken Christian Warriors.

The ReSporter: Coach, what was your goal this week after just two weeks of play with this team?

Coach Fields: “When I saw that we would have an open date this early in the season this Summer, I had no idea of how much this would be a good thing. If we would of had to played, then we would of had a hard time playing this week. This bye week could not of come at a better time.”

The ReSporter: What are you trying to accomplish with the players this week?

Coach Fields: “We are trying to get in better condition and we are going to polish up some things and try to get better. We put our game plan for Brenham in yesterday.”

The ReSporter: You mentioned on how much cross training you were having to do with your players this year, is this another area of concern you are addressing?

Coach Fields: “We are doing more cross training on the defensive side of the ball this week. We have players that we could have on the offensive side of the ball, but we don’t have enough players to substitute and take a chance of injuries.”

The ReSporter: With the team lack of depth this season, has that changed the way you are practicing?

Coach Fields: “This is the first year I have been at Bracken that we have quit hitting in practice. It is a pick your poison situation. Do you risk injury now, or protect your players so you can keep them healthy into the remainder of the season.”

The ReSporter: By not practicing tackling and other more strenuous exercises, how will that effect your team as this season matures?

Coach Fields: “It will hurt us as the season goes on…you have to pick your poison.”

The ReSporter: Where are you during this time of the season and how to you feel about your athletes?

Coach Fields: “I will feel ok if we do the following three things: Stay healthy, stay eligible, and no internal problems. This group of players is the most close knit bunch since our State Championship year.”

The ReSporter: Could not of ended this talk any better than mentioning that State Championship team and dreaming of what could be the destiny for this team in a few months. Good Luck!!
