The Hawks were down 7-12 in the first game before finally starting to score some rallies against a strong front line for Fredericksburg. In the next five rotations Canyon Lake had crept back to within one point 21-22, before the Billies closed with a 25-21 final score.

The third game was more dramatic as neither team could stretch a lead more than three points. Canyon Lake had this game tied at 23 all, before a service error and then Fredericksburg won with their last serve.

“They (CL Team) need to come up with momentum,” Head Coach Nicole Creek said. “We had too many errors at the end of the game and that just killed us.”

Canyon Lake will now go on a five game road trip for the next couple of weeks before they come back home.

“We have to show up and play, and play early,” Coach Creek responds to how this team will approach the next road games. “They have to get ready to play.”

Canyon Lake JV sweep the Billies, 27-25 and 25-20

The Hawks had a two game sweep of Fredericksburg JV team as a precursor before the Varsity game.

Fredericksburg had only two losses for the year before the Hawks gave them their third.

Canyon Lake won the first game in a Volleyball overtime, 27-25 and then opened up the second game falling behind and then rallying from eight points down, winning 25-20.

Those two losses for Fredericksburg was Belton and Boerne Champion, a couple of higher classification schools.

“This was our best game all season,” Coach Leigh Ann Weaver started. “The team stayed aggressive and I’m really proud of them.”

On what was commented on during the time out that got this Hawk team back into the second game, Coach Weaver said with resolve, “I told them to keep their mind right. You lose everything when you stop communicating and so I emphasized that part of our game.”

Freshman Alexis Robinson was one of those players that stepped up her game offensively for the Hawks.

“Usually when were down, i know that I need to hit the ball hard to win the point. This win makes us closer as a team and it makes me want to improve and win.”

Canyon Lake also had to have some nifty defensive game to keep the Billies at bay during the rally. Sophomores Kacee Vrana and Lillie Sander was the Rock of Gibraltar against Fredericksburg’s attack.

“Coach told us that we had played a really good game but we got beat by Fredericksburg bad in a tournament,” Vrana started. “We are actually where we need to be and having to run (if we lost) is what motivated us.”

Sander also commented on the timeout and the result of winning this game, “We get motivated and pick each other up for our self esteem and get pumped up (responding to what went on in the huddle)…We will need to start early in our next game, but this game means a lot for us and I feel like we can beat very good teams now.”

By putting more skins on the wall this win will eventually have other teams starting to gleam if they can beat this Hawk team.

Good game and go get ’em!
