The Drum Beat with Coach Drum

The ReSporter: Hey Coach Drum, the weather forecast might be calling for rain this Friday.

Head Coach Charley Drum

How will this affect the game if at all?

Coach Drum: “It should not alter our game plan, last week Burnet took away our running game and we switched to passing and we did fine.”

The ReSporter: La Grange has a strong running game, does that play to our strength defensively?

Coach Drum: “I really don’t know what our strength is right now. Yes and no, in the past couple of games we had shut down our opponent’s rushing game, but last week Burnet opened up the field and we had a hard time stopping either one, they (Burnet) took advantage of us in open space.”

The ReSporter: Last week’s game you had no one to field a punt in the fourth quarter when Burnet had a fourth and four situation. The result was the ball being downed on our nine yard line. What was the thinking on that decision?

Coach Drum: We felt they were going to go for the first down, in fact, we thought it was a 50/50 chance they would go for it. I don’t think we could of got to the ball anyway based on how well their punter angled the ball to the sideline.”

The ReSporter: Talk to us about the passing game, it certainly rebounded last week.

Coach Drum: “That was certainly a bright spot and it helped us get back into the game. We still would like both run and pass to work, and our running game could not get us a first down allowing us to hold the lead.”

The ReSporter: Last week we asked what three items you were hoping to accomplish in the game with Burnet, could you comment on if those three ideas were successful?

Coach Drum: “We did develop depth with some players that stepped in and we did not have a lot of penalties and we won the turnover battle. Staying healthy, we did not have any major injuries, just some bump and bruises. And finally with building confidence, we didn’t quite finish that one, we will be able to have a better idea on that with this week’s game. We did not do a good job of finishing which would of been a good confidence boost for the players.”

The ReSporter: So, what are your three goals for this week’s game?

Coach Drum: “I would like a clean football game and win the turnover battle again. I would also like to have some strength showing in the fourth quarter. And of course staying healthy, we will have several of our players coming back.”

The ReSporter: Thanks Coach, good luck this week.
