BCS Lead Squirts away in Loss to Geneva, 58-56
Bracken Christian came out on the short end in their water logged contest Friday night in
Boerne, 58-56.
“We beat ourselves,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “I did a poor job of coaching and we could of done better, but I put our kids in situations they could not succeed.”
The Warriors had their chance with the ball in the first quarter having already stopped Boerne Geneva while BCS scored on their first two drives and driving for their third.
On that drive, a pass to Warrior Gunnar Stolhandske fighting for extra yards fumbled and the turnover gave the home team some momentum while stopping another chance for a score.
Bracken also had trouble in the bonus point part of their game, especially when you take into account that the Warriors had more touchdowns in this game and with a few pat’s conversions BCS would of won the game without a problem.
Eight yards from reaching 600 yards of total offense and you get the idea this Warrior team was not hurting on the offensive side of the ball.
Turnovers was another reason for a two point loss. Two passes that were intercepted and returned for touchdowns could of easily been the difference in two 14 point swings for the Eagles.
Eli Achilles did his part in playing one of the best games in Bracken Christian’s history. This quarterback was responsible for 452 yards by running and passing. With seven touchdowns and tossing another one, you can tell that the Warriors did not leave anything on the field.
This game could easily be a repeat later during the playoff season, as TAPPS six man football is not very deep with quality teams.
There might be five teams max that have the ability to make it to Zephyr this year’s destination for the State Final game. Two of those teams played in Boerne on Friday night.
Bracken stopped Geneva’s offense four times and conversly the Eagles were able to stop BCS only twice.
Another play that could of easily been a stop was on a fourth down in the fourth quarter and Geneva had a snap go over their quarterback’s head…Brock scooped the ball up over 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage and Bracken missed tackling Brock by inches.
That miss resulted in a 25 yard touchdown pass and Bracken was caught in the ‘catch up’ mode once again.
Rain is a welcome sight, but on this night the Warriors needed a few breaks in the clouds as well some breaks on the field of play to pull this game off.
Achilles only had seven interceptions for his whole career and in two possessions he was up to nine. What are the odds that would happen and then add runbacks for touchdowns and the breaks just did not have Warriors on their list.
Not making any bonus points when only two would of given BCS a win. No breaks in that department.
Not catching the quarterback on that fourth down muffed snap and a resulting touchdown pass. Talk about not catching any breaks.
Losing the turnover battle 3-0 also added onto the what else can go wrong side of the ledger.
Is Boerne Geneva better than BCS? They were Friday night, but you can bet they are glad they don’t have to face this Warriors team again this year.
Away from home and with no rain, then you will know Boerne was catching a lot of breaks and Bracken was the better team.
Catching is huge, since this Eagle team was able to catch 21 out of 40 passes, so Geneva has practice on catching breaks too.
