Coaches Corner: Bracken’s Lloyd Fields
The ReSporter: How has your team handled their first loss of the
season this week?Coach Fields: “We lost our first game during the regular season since 2009 and these players are very workmanlike and don’t show a lot of emotion, they understand what we need to do and will display that on the field.”
The ReSporter: How do you handle the rest of this season as District play starts in earnest?
Coach Fields: “We are real happy with our offense, but we will be making some adjustments in our games coming up. We have moved Davis Scott from running back to receiver to help replace losing Arnold Adame. We had lost our vertical game with Adame’s loss and that will help replace that hole. Scott is also faster than Arnold was, but Arnold had more size.
Eli (Achilles) will be moving to running back and Sam Hilgendorf will be our quarterback. Preston Koch will stay as our power back.”
The ReSporter: What happens defensively?
Coach Fields: “Our tight defense is doing well, but we are making changes to our spread defense and moving Eli (Achilles) to corner to take our opponents best receiver.”
The ReSporter: What else are you brewing up for this rest of the regular season?
Coach Fields: “We will have (Jordan) Rohlmeier coming back after having his injury in August and he will be one of our receivers, and we also had another student come in to help us with our depth in Mason Anthony. He is as quick as a cat and we feel he can also help us.
Coy Zunker will also come in and help in our spread offense.”
The ReSporter: You are now in a stretch of games that will give you a chance of experimenting with these new players and with the different positions they will be playing.
Coach Fields: “We have six or seven weeks before our playoff run. We also know that if we finish second, then our destiny will be in the North Bracket for the playoffs. We are in our second season and we are tweaking the wheel, not reinventing it.”
The ReSporter: What are your hopes as you start heading into your stretch run?
Coach Fields: “We have a lot of players that have new roles. We are not asking Sam (Hilgendorf) to win the games, we are asking him to manage our games. He did a very good job in doing that last week in that pressure game. Sam gets better with every day in practice. We will do fine.”
The ReSporter: Thanks Coach enjoy tonights Homecoming game and even though you weren’t allowed to dance last week, this week it will be expected for the Homecoming dance.
