Bracken gets ‘A’ with a 98 Score, Gustine fails with a 56

Bracken Christian scored an ‘A’ in their game against Gustine last Friday night with an all time record for points in the game.

BCS scored on 15 to their 17 possessions in this game. Their only miscue was two interceptions that halted a Warriors team on this record night.

Records that resulted in this contest:
  15 Touchdowns
  22 Total penalties aggregate
23 Most First Downs in a game
  98 Most points scored
 146 Most yards penalized
 154 Most points scored aggregate
221 Most yards aggregate in penalties
 514 Rushing Yards
 675 Most yards gained

Eli Achilles had 262 rushing yards just on his touchdown runs.

Gustine Tigers were playing their first game since the first of the season with a full compliment of players. That certainly made this game a track meet.

The Warriors had to make some personel changes simply by the size of this Tiger team. A short Coy Zunker would of been a mismatch playing against a legit 6’5″ player.

This was also a night where, referees had to be treated for arm cramps based on the amount of times going for their flag.

“In my 41 years of coaching, that was the most yardage ever in penalties, anywhere, anytime, and anyplace,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields.

Bracken started this week with a postponement from one team and had a quick study for preparation. SA Atonement (the team that cancelled) would of not been able to cross the midfield stripe if the game happened.

Atonement would of also allowed Bracken with approximately 10-15 offensive plays for a mercy game stopped at half-time.

“We got more out of this game than playing Atonement,” Coach Fields stated. “Their (Gustine) record is deceiving and they will make the playoffs.”

“It got us ready to play Winston next week and next week’s game will be for second place in District.”

Bracken Christian had plenty of practice on defense as the Tigers had 42 passing attempts and add their 34 rushing plays will give you 76 plays of preparing to stop their opponent.

BCS had 51 total plays in the game. You can do the math and find a Bracken team that averaged 13.2 yards per snap while Gustine averaged just 5.8 yards per snap.

That was a huge advantage for the Warriors as Gustine needed more than two plays to match Bracken in offensive yardage. Out of Gustine’s 17 possessions, they were held out of the end zone 10 of those times.

Preston Koch also had his first touchdown as a receiver and that score covered 40 yards.

Impressive win with some impressive numbers that should have some sore Warriors over this weekend.

Eli Achilles had more yardage than Gustine all by himself. His performance was something that has not been accomplished by many players in six man. You could count the number of players of this calibre with a couple of fingers.

“Eli is a Warrior,” Coach Fields finished. “You don’t do what he does…he also had 17 tackles and an interception.”

“I have had four guys that I have coached that got drafted in NFL and all of them had hearts of a Warrior.”

Next week’s game now looms for a team playing for second place, Bracken will now go on the road for three more games as one of the negatives of the Atonement cancellation, this game would of been a home game.

Now Bracken’s next home game will be in November, when they finish the season against Kerrville OLH.
