Mountain Valley Splits 8th A and B Squad with Texans
Mountain Valley 8th Grade A and B team split with Wimberley last Thursday night at Hawk Stadium.
In the ‘A’ Game, MV started the game with an impressive three play 55 yard drive to tie the score with five minutes left in the second quarter.
Spit End Tyler Shipman had a juggling catch over the middle going for 43 yards for the score. Shipman juggled the ball for ten yards before his clutch of the ball had a positive result.
“It went up in the air and I did not see it and then it popped up again and then I caught it,” Shipman retold the story. “Felt really good and I was tired.”
Anthony Rodriguez also let his presence known against Wimberley.
Rodriguez was responsible for tackle behind by five yards causing a fumble for the Texan runner.
Wimberley recovered but two plays later Rodriguez sacked their quarterback. Those two plays kept the Texans from having positive yardage for their next six plays.
“I felt like I just needed to hit them and do it for team,” Rodriguez said.
The score was still tied until the last play of the third quarter. Quarterback Dylan Compton darted 52 yards and put the Hawks in the lead and Compton added a two point run after the touchdown giving Mountain Valley their first lead.
Wimberley’s McKinney then answered with a 42 yard run but MV kept a two point lead when their point after was denied.
Mountain Valley had a chance to ice the game but a fumble gave Wimberley a chance that was taken advantage of with a six play 42 yards to forge the lead.
Mountain Valley was left short as time ran out for a entertaining contest.

Mountain Valley 8th Grade ‘B’ squad held off a Wimberley rally to win a close nail biter of a game, 8-6.
The Hawks scored their winning touchdown with their first drive of the second quarter.
And what a drive it was. Mountain Valley traveled 96 yards in 11 plays for the score, capped off with a Charlie McIntosh three yard run. The pass to Mason Blackburn sealed the deal on the conversion. That proved to be enough points against this Texan team.
McIntosh was a beast on both sides of the ball. Scoring and getting interceptions made this a complete game for this young man.
“I really had a good game,” McIntosh blushed. “My adrenaline kept me going and not wanting to be yelled at by Coach. I think we can play like this everyday.”
The Drive had two third down conversions, the last was converted needing 12 yards. Andrew Neel pass to Blackburn was good for 25 yards and set up the three yard run.
Running plays accounted for 37 yards while the passing game chipped in 59 of those yards. Impressive would be a good word for this Drive.
Chris Hernandez was the key in stopping Wimberley after a Texan interception and being deep in MV territory. A run blitz from Hernandez stopped their drive, “That was a called play and I just shot through the line.”
“With one more District game and just win for the team,” Hernandez finished.
Another Hawk that played in Wimberley’s backfield that he almost was awarded a Texan jersey was Defensive Lineman Jesse Stanley, “On defense I’m just watching the back and keeping active…next week we need to play even harder.”
The rest of this game was defensive all the way around as both teams could not get it going until a Texan drive with a little over two minutes left in the game.
Blackburn sealed the deal with another Hawk interception putting a Hawk victory in the bag.
“I know we would win the game after I had the interception, I actually thought I would be able to run it back.”
