Coaches Corner: Mary Beth Gallagher for CL Basketball
Coaches Corner with Head Basketball Coach Mary Beth
GallagherThe ReSporter: Hey Coach, you have won your first two games, tell us how your opener went with SA Universal?
Coach Gallagher: “Yes, Hannah St. John had eight points and Katie Williams scored 23 points. It was a good game to knock the rust off and we battled hard.”
The ReSporter: How was your defense?
Coach Gallagher: “We missed a lot of shots, but we got after it on defense and I was pleased with our effort.”
The ReSporter: Who are the players to watch this season?
Coach Gallagher: “Players to watch will be Katie Williams and Amber Ramsey at the post. Olivia Flores will be our outside shooting threat and if Hannah can get her shot on, I expect her to be a scoring threat as well. Kyndall Drum our new Sophomore had 10 points in the game against Randolf.”
The ReSporter: You are telling us about who scored in your game with Randolf, tell us what you have in store offensively for the Hawks?
Coach Gallagher: “We want to establish an uptempo style of play where we go hard on defense and push the ball up the court when we can. We have above average speed but will need to score in transition to keep up with the big dogs in our district.”
The ReSporter: What happened in your game with Bastrop last Friday night?
Coach Gallagher: “We played Bastrop, a 4A opponent and again battled very hard. They were extremely physical and we didn’t back down. We were at one point down, 22-9 and came back to win, 39-36.”
The ReSporter: Tell the CL fans who were your scorers in that game?
Coach Gallagher: “Katie Williams led all scorers with 13 points, followed by Amber Ramsey with 7. Olivia Flores had 9 points from the outside.”
The ReSporter: Thanks Coach and glad to see you are working on a two game winning streak. Good luck as you play again this Tuesday against Comfort at the Hawk Gym.
