CL Flies Over Stacey Eagles, in 65-13 Win
Canyon Lake started out with a press that kept Stacey needing a dry cleaner in a win over the Eagles, 65-13 last Friday night at Hawk gym.
This game was over after the first quarter, as Stacey had a hard time getting on their offensive side of the court.
Katie Williams had more points than Stacey in her fourth quarter scoring, when she poured in 14 points from underneath the basket.
Depth is proving to be a key for this club as each player can bring some answers for any type of game that might be evolving.
It did not matter which quarter or which five players were on the court, since that depth was still more than this Eagle team could handle.
There are still many things to improve on with the Hawks.
A better free throw percentage comes to mind as this little part of this particular game was not something to worry about. In future games, this could be an undoing for a loss.
In the second and third quarter, Canyon Lake was not crisp as how they started this game and that could also have a future game in jeopardy based on this loss of focus.
“We try to stress and give the girls little goals during the game,” Head Coach Mary Beth Gallagher said. “That should help them to focus better when we are in a game like tonight. We called off the dogs and that took away from our aggressiveness.”
Canyon Lake has a good team and this game was their second one in a row that every player was on the scoring sheet.
Good things? As many as three times of steals than turnovers is a good place to hang your hat. Having more assists than turnovers is even better.
Finally, having twice as many offensive rebounds compared to defensive rebounds will help with a poor shooting percentage.
Canyon Lake has had two four game winning streak in the past three years at the first of the season.
In 2009, that CL team had a four and five game winning streak during this time of the year.
Point would be how this team will learn during this time of the season realizing that better teams will be coming on their schedule soon enough.
Now Canyon Lake has a chance of going further and how they learn during this time of the season will be more meaningful in games as this season draws to a close.
Cedar Creek in Bastrop will be CL’s next game Tuesday.
