Marbles Fall on Hawks in 5th Inning in Loss, 4-3

Play Ball!! Canyon Lake started their season against a solid 4A Marble Falls outfit and had a good

Pitcher Logan Felch

chance of pulling off an impressive win.

But that timely hit just did not find a spot on this field of play leaving a one run deficit to the Mustangs.

Speaking of timely hits, MF could only muster three and that last one happened to bring in three runs with a bases clearing double.

The fifth inning was a case where starter Logan Felch just ran out of gas and could not finish his outstanding start.

Felch had thrown just 11 balls through four innings and had 13 in the fifth giving the Mustangs an opening that was capitalized on.

“You can’t give freebies like that,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant said in responding to also having a MF batter reaching base by being hit by a pitch, loading the bases.

The Hawks have started their season with Marble Falls each year and this game was won by a very slim margin compared to past campaigns.

“I can’t put words to it,” Coach Dunavant said while responding to what this outcome might have been if played a year earlier.

Felch had thrown just 43 pitches going into that 5th inning. “That was just an early season game and that was the most pitches he had pitched all season,” Dunavant admonished.

Marble Falls had won some easy games against Canyon Lake in years past, but on this night it would be a different team than a Mustang team has faced in previous contests.

Case and point was a towering home run off the bat of Felch in that first inning. Felch battled on this at bat by fouling off two pitches on two strike pitches.

Then on a 2 and 2 count, Felch got one that he liked as that ball sailed over the right field fence, driving home two runs.

“It felt pretty good and I got all of it,” Felch said.

That lead would hold up through four innings, until MF’s two out bases clearing double.

“A lot to a little,” Felch commented on what might happened score wise in years past. “We have greatly improved, but I got a little fatigued and I have a lot to work on.”

Other notes from this game would be how much speed Canyon Lake can put on the diamond.

Daniel Camarillo beat out an infield hit and then stole second on a pick-off move from their southpaw. Impressive to say the least.

Defensively, CL had no errors which was something rarely seen in games played last season. True this was just one game, but there was several positives for this Hawk team to build on.

How about a bench for Coach Dunavant to delve into for substituting.

This could of been a win, but right now Canyon Lake will take what they can and with some improvement here and there, could make for a good run to finish this season.

“This team (Marble Falls) was better than our district teams,” Duanavant assessed.
