Hawks Win 3rd Game in Lockhart Tournament over Vikings, 7-3
Canyon Lake has now reached last year’s win total as the Hawks took care of the little things to win big over Austin Lanier Vikings, 7-3.“Glad we got to three wins,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant dead panned. “Let’s don’t shut down main street for a parade just yet.”
Baseball is won more by doing little things within a game and when a team is successful in that execution, then a win will usually be a result.
“If you don’t hit the ball then your opponent can’t have fielding errors,” Coach Dunavant said eloquently. “We need to get on a roll to get things right and just win.”
Little things like hitting a ball and giving yourself a chance to have your opponent make a mistake. Lanier finished with seven errors in this game.
The Lanier Vikings did have some fielding problems and CL did what good teams are suppose to do when given gifts.
Open them!!
Travis Walker opened his gift in the 7th inning when he crushed a ball over the left field wall for a three-run homerun.
The Vikings had two errors up to that point in the seventh and Walker made Lanier pay dearly for their mistakes.
“I had been early (in swinging the bat) for the whole tourney,” Walker started. “I knew we had to have a steal (stolen base) and so I held my weight back trying to go to right field and I just got it.”
Walker tied Logan Felch for the lead in home runs with his 6th career dinger, as both players seem to be in a home run race this season.
Corey Shedrock looked sharp in his outing giving up just two hits while striking out three Vikings.
“Just throw strikes and get us back,” Pitcher Shedrock pitched. “I wanted to make my infield work most of the time.”
With consecutive fielding errors in that second inning the Hawks calmed down and was flawless to end this game of little things.
Putting this year into perspective, CL was 1-3 this time last season and Coach Dunavant was not even thinking about making a float.
Now, with a 3-1 record, Canyon Lake can go to a parade but must make sure that they are not given the poop scooper. Way too many games to play yet but what has been seen so far has been pleasing to many eyes that were sore by this time last year.
On how are you feeling, “Pretty good,” Shedrock balked. “Now let’s keep it going just like we are and try to get better.”
On already having three wins, “It feels good, now let’s go for four,” Walker finished.
Parades are for big time events and right now your Hawks are not in a lineup to participate…time will tell if a float will be ordered, but those little things will hopefully result in a homerun.
The ReSporter doesn’t even know where a main street would be in the Canyon Lake communities.
