Hawks Lose to St. Michael’s but Get a Win Anyway
Canyon Lake won another game on Friday night, it just so happens that it was a previous
contest against Marble Falls as the Mustangs were playing with an ineligible player. However, on the game played on the field tonight, Canyon Lake lost a one run game to St. Michaels as that clutch hit just could not be found.
Recap: Playing in tournaments is tough on many teams based on how deep a pitching staff they might have.
St. Michael’s was playing their second game to CL’s third game, so advantage to St. Michaels in the arms race.
This game last season might have been a laugher when you consider that the Hawks barely had nine players much less enough pitchers to put out on a mound to help give CL a chance for a win.
Add to that, two freak injuries to Corey Shedrock and Garrett Winters and you have an idea of how fragile last year’s team would of been compared to this year’s collection of players.
“We are piecing it together,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant deduced.
Yes, a win would of been ideal, but a simple fact of playing a good opponent with a chance to tie or win in the seventh inning gives you an idea of how well Canyon Lake seems to be clicking this season.
Now the Hawks have brought up Nick Cahill from JV with a chance to shore up a hole left in the infield with Winters injury.
“I’m excited about being able to help the team,” Cahill said flawlessly. “I will do whatever the coaches need and play for the team and just let it roll out.”
Cahill did have one of CL’s six hits and with his play in the field, only good things will be in a future filled with a whole new set of goals.
“I felt confident at the plate,” Cahill said. “I think it is important to be as solid as possible at the plate as well in the field….I do look at both areas differently and try to dial in, in the batter’s box, while trying to be as routine as I can when I’m playing defense.”Has The ReSporter mentioned how CL’s depth is in a stratosphere not seen in many moons?
Michael Brady once again showed off his cannon of a arm as he helped pitcher Logan Felch in his last inning, gunning down two base runners and keeping the game within one run.
Brady was not too shabby at the plate either as he was a perfect three for three and making it hard on the opposing pitchers.
Canyon Lake did put themselves within reach of a win after falling behind 4-1 in those middle innings.
In the sixth inning, CL had Travis Walker draw a walk and then Brady continued the inning with his third hit of this contest. With Nick Kissell running for Walker he found the plate after a passed ball.
One pitch later Kyler Huff scored Conner Drum running for Brady with a fielder’s choice.
With two one pitch singles from Cahill and Peyton Sipila, had an anxious St. Michael’s dugout, but a double play put those butterflies back on the wall.
Canyon Lake started their seventh inning with a dandy speed play when Daniel Camarillo beat out an infield roller giving these Hawks with one more shot at St. Michaels.
“I was watching the pitcher and I knew I could take advantage of his laziness,” Speedy Camarillo said. ”
“We still have one more game tomorrow and I feel we have more confidence and being more aggressive will get us some more wins.”
Now this loss would make CL’s record 5-3, however with a victory over Marble Falls now, Canyon Lake will officially have a 6-2 record.
Also, don’t forget that your Hawks now have a five game winning streak to start this season instead of their record four before MF’s blunder.
Marbles were Falling all over the place for that game and now Canyon Lake will play their last game at Noon on Saturday and then put a bullseye on a Billie, to start District 27-3A next Tuesday.
