Hawks and Texans were All-Tied up after Doubleheader Soccer Games

Lady Hawks Soccer Team are now going where no CL Team Sport has gone in these past two years,

Two Football years
Two Basketball years
Two Volleyball years
….you get the idea, it has been a while for the Hawks and now hopefully there might be more sports to follow.

Yes, Canyon Lake has finished higher in Track and Field these past couple of years, but Track doesn’t go as a team after district has finished.

The Hawks needed a win for finishing in third place outright, but another tie would have a different way of determining how these two teams would be put in their respected playoff brackets.

So, Head Coach Katie McWhorter would need to win a coin flip to decide which team might face the 6th ranked team in State for their first round opponent.

Both teams could only muster a goal a piece for this dramatic finish. No, not a penalty kick, just a coin flip.

“I was able to call the flip,” Coach McWhorter said. “Before I called the coin toss, I asked my team captains what they wanted me to call. Lauren Justis had to sit out this game due to a concussion, and she and Jasmine Smith have been great leaders for the team this year, so I really felt it was their call to make. Jasmine asked me to call heads, and we ended up winning the tie breaker with that.”

Smith might have gotten an assist for the call that now will have Canyon Lake not only in the playoffs, but a team that will have the opportunity to host as well.

Canyon Lake will put their uniforms on for another game this Tuesday at Hawk Field when they meet Boerne Champion.

Champion finished Second in District 54-4A behind Alamo Heights the team, Wimberley will have next.

Coach McWhorter commented on this year’s team, “My overall impression of this team is they did a very good job and kept pressure on Wimberley to keep the ball on our side, especially during that second half.”

“The defense maintained a strong front all game,” Coach McWhorter continued. “Although our team lacks depth, we are fighters, and we proved that tonight. The girls really kept the morale up during the game, and didn’t ever quit.”

Canyon Lake still has an uphill battle as Champion beat Schertz Clemens earlier this year, which the team that finished second in District 53-4A with CL.

How will that team play when they meet this coming Tuesday at 6pm?

“I really haven’t relied on any one girl in particular, this season has really been a team effort,” Coach McWhorter finished. “A lot of girls have been injured, and therefore many younger players have had to step up. I really believe that these girls have come together as a true team. I am very proud of this team and this season.”

Canyon Lake also is very proud of this team and hope that it might continue for another week….Good Luck!

BOYS
CANYON LAKE 1 WIMBERLEY 1

Hawk Boy’s Soccer finished their season in that first game of the double header at CL Field on Friday night.

Wimberley brought out the best in this Hawk team as they were able to tie our neighbors to the north and also score their first goal since January 22nd of this year.

Logan Russell had that goal which tied this game.

The Texans did have some wins over some teams this year that CL could not solve, but this might bode well for the future for this Hawk team.

Wimberley finished with a 3-3-2 District 53-4A and an overall record of 10-6-2 for this season.

A good way to finish this year’s schedule and of course it is always good that the team was Wimberley.
