District 27-3A Boy’s Field Events Summation

Canyon Lake will be hosting District 27-3A Track and Field this Wednesday and Thursday and

The ReSporter will break down each school and event to help in letting fans know what are some don’t miss competition.

This will be a three part series and we will look at the Field Events first and then get into running events in the next two days.

The Hawks will have some impressive matches and below is how each team will stack up in those Field Events based on their performances this year.

Field Events (High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Discus, Shot Put, Pole Vault)

High Jump will be the Jordan Anderson event as he has a 4 inch advantage on his closest athlete from Fredericksburg in Ryan McBee.

If Michael Sheffield can match his jump of 5’10” that he hit on March 7th, then he too might be on that same bus to Regions.

This is not a strong District 27-3A event, but to be there to watch Anderson try to reach another level and also to watch who might be one of Canyon Lake’s best athletes before he walks across that graduation stage.

The ReSporter will not miss this event as Canyon Lake has a decent chance of getting two athletes to that next level.

Branson Belcher had his career best at the Hawk Relays two weeks ago and that jump put him in contention for another two weeks of practice as he also has that chance of being on what might be a full bus going to Regions.

Belcher will need to be at his best as there are five athletes with a jump over 40 feet. Wimberley’s Alex Mireles has a comfortable one foot best but this event will all be based on who will take a chance to get as close to the edge of the board to increase that chance of getting into one of those top three jumps.

Canyon Lake does not have any other student that is in the running for more points unless they might want to see if some of those Junior Varsity Girls might want to try a couple of jumps for the Hawks. (just kidding Joseph Arredondo)

Arredondo has a jump of 36’7″ for the Boys Junior Varsity, but he will be busy running relay events for helping the boys JV score valuable points.

Long Jump has Christian Dittman that has scored points this season with a jump of 19’1″ a few weeks ago and would need to increase that distance by another foot to have a chance of competing in Regions.

Canyon Lake does have Jordan Anderson that finished second last year but has not been active in this event this season.

With a Meet that spans two days will give Anderson a possible chance to compete and get that First Place that was missed by a scant 0.25 of an inch last season.

Fredericksburg has three students in the top four and if Dittman and Anderson compete then that would be a huge point swing for Canyon Lake as they will be battling those Billies for every possible point.

Shot Put has two Hawks in the running in Trey Saenz and Wes Dicks. Both of these athletes would have to pull off a season best to get into those top three places for prolonging their athletic career for CL.

Drew Daniels with Boerne will be a player to watch as he is knocking on that 50 mark and will certainly have a chance to get to the State Meet.

Discus has Canyon Lake’s Thomas Gregory that has the third best heave up to this point. Gregory would need a throw of another 4 to 5 feet to move up in those important point totals.

Navarro’s Slade Hudson is the class act of this event, as he is 18 feet better than Corey Jennings with Bandera who holds down that second place slot.

Hudson for sure has a State ticket if he can get into that stratosphere as the rest of this field will be in another zip code in trying for those other two spots for Regions.

Pole Vault will be a must see event this year as their are three players that have all hit that 14

foot barrier this season and all of these students have had those jumps recently.

That means they are on their game and this will be a fun event to be a spectator.

Canyon Lake’s Christian Dittman is presently at the 14’3 mark and all three of these athletes certainly have a chance to advance to State.

Navarro’s Luke Jaroszewski (14’6″) and Kaleb Kelley (14’0″) are those other two students.

The rest of this field are in the 11 foot range and they are all from Fredericksburg. If Tommy Clark can hit one of his best and also have an off day from some of those Billies, then CL can steal some precious points for front runner Fredericksburg.
