Lady Hawks Will Struggle in the Long Distance and Hurdles

Canyon Lake will be hosting District 27-3A Track and Field this Wednesday and Friday and The

Freshman Sydney Reibschlager and the rest of the JV will be a showcase in this week's District Meet

ReSporter will break down each school and event to help in letting fans know what are some don’t miss competition.

This will be a three part series and this is our Third part for the Ladies. Today we will go over Long Distance and Hurdle events.

Canyon Lake is not known for their distance and hurdle races at the Varsity level. In fact that one point you see below was run by Sydney Reibschlager who is presently competing for the Hawks JV squad.

So, in assessing CL’s chances of scoring points with these events would not be something you could count on.

Navarro is a front runner for District 27-3A teams with a 46 point total this season and Bandera and Fredericksburg is bunched up with a 37 and 36 point total respectfully.

Wimberley’s points are coming from one young lady but when you add up the other two sets of track events, then those points become very important as teams try to amass enough to put them at the top.

Fredericksburg is a team with more depth and that always helps when you are trying to put distance between you and your competitors and the Billies have and will score consistently in each event each year to keep them head and shoulders above other district schools.

Any points Canyon Lake could pull out of these events would be a huge surprise, but that is why they put on those cleats.

 Long Distance Runs and Hurdles
 1. Navarro 46
 2. Bandera 37
 3. Fredericksburg 36
 4. Wimberley 20
 5. Boerne 4
 6. Canyon Lake 1

The 800 Meter Run has Hannah Graves as Canyon Lake’s best chance for points in this event this seasons.

Graves is about 3 or 4 seconds needed to help get into scoring points area as this seems to be a tough contingent of runners.

Most of these best runs have been recent so that would indicate that these girls are peaking at the right time.

Junior Olivia Flores running the 1600 Meter Run

In the 1600 Meter Run or ‘Old School’ The Mile Run, the Hawks are once again pretty far off from scoring any points.
Olivia Flores has the best time for CL, but it is about half a minute away from getting any points for the Hawks.

The Hawks are woefully thin in this race too with only Jenna MacConnal with a time and she is pretty far away from contention at this time.

Navarro and Bandera have entered the Fredericksburg Distance Party this year and will break up the Billies dominance in this District Meet.

Canyon Lake will have a little more interest in the Hurdles and Trena Lorett will have to be in her groove to break into that point column.

Freshman Sydney Reibschlager would have a point for CL in the 100 Meter Hurdle race, but you can pencil this young lady on the Junior Varsity Team as that will be worth more points for that very potent group of athletes on the Hawks JV.

Not a good ending, but overall Canyon Lake has a good chance of finishing high and certainly with the Junior Varsity you could have a win and a future that will look bright for those Hawks.
