Softball: Hawks Win, 13-3 over Boerne

Boerne had a Triple-Play against the Hawks on Tuesday night’s loss to Canyon Lake, 13-3.

Sophomore Kelsey Ahrens showing off her .379 District 27-3A Batting Average

The good news is that a triple play means that CL had enough base runners to get that many players out on any given play.

With an eight run inning to start the game pretty much put this game away quickly as the Hawks were able to run rule the Greyhounds.

Ten players scored in this contest as Head Coach John Gallagher did all he could do to get playing time for his players.

McKenna Beseda continued her record setting season when she had two hits in that first inning as CL batted around the score book

First Inning At Bats:
1 Reached on Error (roe)
2 Batters Hit by Pitch (hbp)
3 Hits
3 Walks

That is a good way to start a Softball game.

Canyon Lake is now in their getting ready for the last game for several senior players.

One such player, Vicky Henderson, has been getting a hot bat as the season comes to an end.

The main item to note about Henderson is her defense at short stop. That is one position that Coach Gallagher does not have to worry about defense being a problem during a contest.

One of Coach Gallagher’s main quest this season was having a more potent batting average.

Look at the top batters for this season:
 McKenna Beseda .493
 Alexis Robinson .380
 Brianna Young .352
 Kelsey Ahrens .338
 Lilimae Daily .309

A batting order with that many hitters does give a coach hope in any contest. The Hawk’s season batting average is a lofty .286 which is ranked first for the soon to be five year program.

Last season CL had a .252 average from the plate. Having an on base percentage of .613 in this game certainly did not hurt or bring down any averages.

Canyon Lake will now be saying good bye to four Seniors this Friday and The ReSporter caught up with two of those players after this game.

McKenna Beseda has a .493 season average that will certainly implant her on top of the hill as she slides into her last game. “It’s sad that it is going to be over, but the average is something that is just there….it is just an average.”

Beseda’s average is certainly something to boast about, but her defense in centerfield was certainly as asset for CL this season.

Vicky Henderson has a .364 batting average during District 27-3A this year and seems to be heating up and moving up in Coach Gallagher’s batting line-up. “I have been staying on one side of the plate and quit trying to slap the ball…so working on one thing and just sticking to hitting has helped a lot.

Henderson was at a loss of words when asked about her career at CL: “I just don’t know what to think about it…”

Well The ReSporter can certainly find some words, as you think about having a Vacuum in the infield, you can be sure to know that this young lady will be missed as a constant staple in these past four years.

Thanks young ladies and now get us a Panther this Friday.
