Here is the skinny….Canyon Lake needs to win this game and get off their losing streak.
Fredericksburg has had a good pre/district record and with that will come confidence.
Quarterback Kyle Grona is the player under center again this season and he is a dual threat for Fredericksburg.
Grona has accounted for 1068 all purpose yardage this season and you can bet that he will be a person of interest for this Hawk defense.
The Billies have given several players in the game by receiving, as seven players have 50 or more yards this season.
Joaquin Rivera is Grona’s main target with 14 catches and 134 yards and Matthew McManigle has also hit the century mark with 110 yards.
Three other receivers also have a very respectable 70 or more receiving yards: Name Rec. Yds Yds/Catch TD Kyle Reeh 6 79 13.2 0 Brayden Beard 7 78 11.0 0 Wade Shepherd 8 73 9.0 1
So this Billies team will spread the wealth to say the least.
Paco Martinez has had 83 carries and 447 yards on the ground while Grona has 382 yards running and a whopping 8 touchdowns.
Look for Grona to call his own number when getting close to the end zone.
Fredericksburg’s defense gave up 40 points to Burnet in their first game this season but since that game, the Billie ‘D’ has erected an iron curtain and is yielding a paltry 10 points per game.
This game will be a chance for some redemption for Canyon Lake as this year’s pre/district account can be erased with a win over Freddy.
Canyon Lake will need to have a good game defensively and get enough stops to give their offense time to score and take the pressure and edge off their shoulders.
The Hawks have not had a game yet where they have been clicking in all phases of their game.
Offense is good? Defense is not.
Defense is good? Special Teams is not.
Special Teams is good? Offense is not.
Canyon Lake’s schedule would be considered tougher than what Fredericksburg has drawn up, but now is the time to see if that will matter as district will give you no chances for do overs.
The Hawks have been in a daze ever since that Boerne game two years ago when a do over would of given them a chance to make some noise in the playoffs and all they had to show for it was having the best record (8-2) for a team without that privilege.
Can CL win? Of course they can and Fredericksburg is that one team the Hawks have their best all time record playing.
That extra week of practice will help in preparation and healing for many of the players and this season your Hawks will have 3 of the 5 district games at home.
So Mom’s get that home cooking in high gear and get a big crowd in those stands for what hopes to be a 1-0 District 27-3A record.
