This is a simple analysis, Bracken Christian beat Sugar Land Logos Prep this year by four points and so that will be the difference this game too.
Wait…The ReSporter knows that many variables are added in to this formula as the season progresses.
So the question that would need to be answered: Has Bracken improved more than Logos Prep has since their game over two months ago?
In that earlier game, the Warriors held the Lions to their lowest yardage for this season which would include the Lions mercy games.
Sugar Land seems to pass more when the game is close and in both losses in order to score quickly.
The Lions have averaged 206 yards rushing and 124 yards via the airwaves.
Two players will have a hand in passing department. Seniors Cooper Hicks and Jacob Ross have totaled over 1100 yards passing with Ross leading for 868 yards.
Compare that total with Bracken and you can see that Sugar Land will pose a more balanced attack.
Cooper Hicks is the Lions leading rusher breaking the 1000 yard barrier and averaging 111 yards per game, Hicks has scored 13 times. The rest of Sugar Land’s rushers combined 270 yards letting you know that Hicks is the horse these Lions ride in their games.
Several receivers have accumulated a fair amount of yards:
Name Receptions Yards Average TD #25 Toby Pavlik 20 326 16.3 5 #14 Cooper Hicks 13 249 19.2 3 # 4 Andrew Hill 11 227 20.6 3 #42 Tyler Fisher 11 225 20.5 3
Sugar Land has a lot of weapons in their arsenal and looking at these numbers you will see Hicks in several venues this Saturday night.
Toby Pavlik (#25) will the Lions lock down defensive player as he leads the team with 67 tackles with 11 of those resulting in lost yardage for their opponent.
Tim Pickle (#10) has also set high bar with eight tackles for a loss.
Jacob Ross (#18) leads the team with four interceptions this season.
On special teams, Sugar Land is converting 83% of their bonus kicks and that will certainly be an item giving the Lions an advantage over Bracken.
The Warriors have had a decent season and some injuries might be an item you might want to play close attention.
Noah Boriack has certainly done a fine job this season rushing and having Preston Koch in the backfield will give the Lions more to think about.
Defense is where Bracken will have to raise the bar to come out ahead in this contest as the Warriors held Sugar Land to their lowest point total this season and if that side of the ball can come close to duplicating that part of their game, then the chances for a win will increase.
Sam Hilgendorf has been the leading tackler the last couple of games but a big game from Davis Scott and John Colby will need to be realized for Bracken to stay in this fight.
How the endurance plays out should also be a key to who could win this game. This will be a four quarter game and having fresh legs near the end of the game could spell who wins or loses.
Good Luck Warriors.
