Seven Seconds will Last 9 Months in Warriors Loss, 30-21
Miscues Result in Loss for BCS in game with Logos Prep last Saturday night in Giddings, Texas, 30-21.
A returned kick-off and fumbles gave the Lions enough ammo to win on this night.
Logo’s Preps Toby Pavlik was responsible for 18 points of the Lions game while winning the fumble derby.
Bracken was first to capitalize on that fumble derby as Preston Koch took the handoff and fumbled in the air where Noah Boriack was waiting for the ball to fall into his hands and scored from 1 yard out.
That fumble just popped into the air for Boriack while Logos would score on fumbles that would resemble hand offs and also the conventional returned fumble by picking a ball off the ground.
The Warriors would win the yardage battle but Logos did not need an offense when having their defense and special teams responsible for 23 of the 30 Lion’s points.
Defense was at a premium which is evident by the average play being pedestrian for both teams.
BCS averaged 5.6 yards per play while the Lions could only muster a balmy 4.3 yards.
Those are numbers for a ‘Crowded Field’ football game and a foreign concept in a 6-Man arena.
Noah Boriack did his part rushing for 160 yards on this night, but not having any sort of passing game did make this game a ground and pound affair.
Bracken scored on their first drive when the drove 42 yards in 10 plays without having one snap covering more than 9 yards.
A fumble for Logos on their first drive was reciprocated by Bracken when John Colby fumbled two plays later and a Lion first score on a fumble return.
BCS would respond on their next possession by driving 60 yards on six plays and scooting out to a 14-8 lead.
That drive had three plays breaking the 10 yard mark with Boriack accounting for 40 of those yards.
The Bracken defense would hold the Lions again and would have their best and final drive resulting in points for the night.
Eight plays and 77 yards later, the Warriors were in control with a 21-8 lead and only 7 seconds left before halftime.
That kick-off would break any momentum BCS might have enjoyed as several Lion’s players had a chance in handling the ball with Jacob Ross for Logos finally taking the ball over the goal line bringing this game back to a one score deficit.
“We had fumbles and penalties that hurt us but we could not overcome that 7 seconds,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “It was our ball game and that kick-off return swung the emotion of this game from our side to Logos. That one play took Logos from the outhouse to the penthouse.”
Logos Prep would have their only legit drive to start the second half by driving 60 yards and taking their first and final lead, 21-22.
Bracken would punt on their next eeries that was doused on a holding penalty after a Jeff Camp reverse that would of set the Warriors up at Logo’s 21 yard line.
BCS could not regain traction after that penalty and punted for the first time since the San Marcos Home School game.
Bracken Christian held Logos Prep again only to have the Warriors committing a fumble that was caused by a Lion’s player ripping the ball from Koch’s hand and returning that ‘fumble’ 25 yards for their last score of this game.
Tough game to end the season on for Bracken on what could have been a chance to continue the season one more week.
The ReSporter will have some thoughts from players later this week as we recap the 2013 season.
