Hawks Double Win Total at Blanco Holiday Hoopfest
Canyon Lake started the New Year on an upbeat as they ran past Mason and Fredeiricksburg
Heritage at the Blanco Holiday Hoopfest Tournament.
Skyler Tschoepe and Andrew Riali were the recipients as the rest of the Hawks followed suit and finished off their counterparts.
Tschoepe finished the day with 28 points and 18 rebounds for the two games and seems to be getting his basketball legs as this season matures into district play.
“I worked hard in practice,” Tschoepe said. “We worked on fast break drills but football and basketball is night and day difference on the type of shape you need to be in.”
Tschoepe was strong around the rim and scored most of his points inside the paint.
“I need to be strong with the ball underneath,” Tschoepe closed. “We need to play and get better on how we played today and play fast.”
Andrew Riali finished his two game stint with double/doubles with points and rebounds.
Riali’s two game totals were impressive with 21 points and 20 rebounds.
Luke Curry broke out of his mini slump after the Mason game with 10 points making both three pointers finishing shooting four out of five shots for the game with Fredericksburg Heritage.
Isaac Mendez also shot the ball well sinking 6 out of 11 shots in both games, but Mendez defense is what helps fuel this Hawk team as he also contributed 9 steals in the two games.
“We are trying to get everybody in and work on both sides of the ball,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman stated. “Defensively we flew around the court and had two good games today.”
Canyon Lake did play two opponents that are not in the same class size wise so victories like today are what was needed for a team that matched their win total for the year.
“We still need to get better with the ball,” Chapman said. “We are being more aggressive on offense and I would rather have mistakes playing fast instead of working slow like we did last year….this was our best day of the year.”
Canyon Lake will tip-off again tomorrow when they play host Blanco at 10:00 AM.
