Bracken Christian has set 2014 Football Schedule
Bracken Christian Warriors have all their ducks in a row as TAPPS has realigned BCS into a new district and this year’s schedule has been set.
“Four of the top six teams will be coming from our district,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “OLH has everyone coming back and Castle Hills was the Division II State Champ last season.”
Bracken has been playing these past few years with 12-14 players on the sideline when other same division schools might have over 20 suited up and not playing.
Those type of numbers in 6-Man will always give the advantage to the larger school.
“We don’t have a problem with it (being the smaller school),” Coach Fields stated. “We have numbers now that would be good enough for Division III, so we will still be the smaller school even in this new classification, but we have been playing that type of schedule anyway.”
TAPPS has formed another class and will be playing for the next two years with three different size of schools. Bracken has been in the larger school class the last two years and even though they were lowered to Division II, the actual size would of been a better fit for these Warriors in Division III.
“I don’t want to have 16 teams in the playoffs, but I don’t want to have just eight teams either,” Coach Fields calculated. “I think 12 teams would be ideal.”
“They haven’t asked me, but I would give the District Champion a bye the first round and have the second and third place teams pitted agains each other,” Coach Fields said. “Then the District winner could play the winner at home for the second round of playoffs.”
Bracken has been in the playoffs in all but one year since they first put on pads. BCS started football in 2006 and after their 1-9 first year have been making a habit of playoffs ever since.
“If we stay healthy, we will be in the thick of it again this year,” Coach Fields finished. “Maybe a couple of transfers will transfer in this next year.”
Bracken’s schedule has been set now and only scrimmages have not been formulated at this writing.
The Warriors will be having spring practices later this semester and The ReSporter will be there to decipher this Bracken club and report all your updates.
