to a 19-5 win over Luling Eagles in their final game in the Navarro Tournament on Saturday.

Young had a double and home run in a 12 run first inning to give the Hawks a cushion that helped this young ball club to a 4-2 record opening their season.

“Overall, we improved over our Thursday games,” Head Coach John Gallagher started. “The players played hard and never quit…We will use these games with some teaching in the field.”

Every Hawk had a hit in this game as Canyon Lake batted around the order twice in those three innings before this game was called on a time limit.

CL starts the season with 5 home runs in their first six games and that is more dingers than Canyon Lake has had in their history.

Ahrens was one of the players with two home runs to start this season.

“I have worked hard to improve my hitting and to perfect it,” Junior Ahrens said. “Good work prepares us for competition and we have to improve on some things and we will get them.”

In an earlier game, Carly DuBois had two catches in centerfield that would of made Willie Mays happy.

“I was coming for the ball and I knew she was going to hit that way last time to left field,” Center Fielder DuBois said. “I said holy cow and started sprinting back and I knew that I would have to lay it out and when I dove for the ball I was wishing the ball would get in my glove.”

On this day DuBois wishes came through as her catch was a show stopper and gives Hawk fans a taste of what might be in store for the next four years.

DuBois had another catch against the wall on a later hit proving that she has a good first step and will be an asset for this young ball club.

A first when every ball hit into the outfield on the fly was caught by a player…which has not happened on any game this ReSporter has seen in the last five years.

“No matter who we had out there (in the outfield), it worked,” Coach Gallagher continued. “Everybody that played did well and it will be tough finding our starting outfielders.”

Canyon Lake did have slow starts in the circle as the Hawks had to overcome a five run deficit in their third, back to back to back games.

St. Anthony was the first contest on Saturday and your Hawks batted around in the first inning to start what would be another double digit scoring affair.

Canyon Lake did have a road block in their second game, when Halletsville kept the Hawks with just two hits.

That total matched the Brahmas total, but walks and errors was the difference and giving CL a hard hurdle to clear.

Overall, Canyon Lake will take a 4-2 record into their next game in Blanco on Tuesday in hopes of continuing their growing up as a mature group of young athletes and making their wishes come true.
