The Hawks got back on the winning track and scurried out for an eight run lead before settling in and beating Comfort, 12-5 last Friday night on the road.

After taking a tough loss to Blanco, Canyon Lake did not take long to forge into a lead that would not be threatened in winning by a seven run margin.

Two things was noticeable that did not happen in Blanco.

1. Better Defense, CL reduced that number to just one in this contest.
2. Alexis Robinson having better control and limiting her walks to one.

Third baseman Kelsey Ahrens continues to her hot bat with three hits and another double.

Notice the rise as she has risen with each grade level.

Kelsey Ahrens ab r h bi 2b hr bb so ave obp
 Freshman 43 5 5 7 4 0 5 13 .116 .255
 Sophomore 75 14 26 10 7 0 4 15 .347 .387
 Junior 27 12 13 9 3 2 1 3 .481 .500

This season is not even half way over yet but if you doubled all of Ahrens numbers so far this year, then you can see how much her batting has improved.

Add Carly DuBois and Kirsten Jones also producing multi hit games, then not only does CL have their best batting average ever, but those two and even more Hawks are adding speed to this equation.

Speed helps in both defense and offense and this is evident in spades.

“We are more prepared and have a better mindset,” Second Baseman Jones said. “They (the Coaches) are trying to get us to see better at the plate and to make sure we are waiting for our pitch.”

Another stat that goes unnoticed are walks and Canyon Lake has also increased that part of their arsenal too. The Hawks are averaging four walks per game and that is a record for this team.

“Focusing more on each play and to work as a team together without any problems between each other,” Jones commented on what the difference in this club for this season has been.

Brianna Young’s leadership behind the plate was also a key element in this win and now Canyon Lake will be in action this coming Tuesday at Hawk Diamond with the JV game starting at 5pm and Varsity’s game first pitch at 7pm.

Come and get comfortable and watch the fireworks.
