Hawks get First Win in Llano, 5-2
Canyon Lake took care of business in the cold in Llano with a 5-2 win on Tuesday night.
This was a good win as the Hawks finally had a team that was not larger with enrollment to play and compete with.
Junior Cody Powell pitched a gem and pitched five innings with two back to back three strike out innings.
“We wanted to give (Cody) Powell some work as we are trying to see who we might have as our pitcher on Tuesday’s when district starts,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant said.
Powell finished with nine strikeouts with three walks in his effort.
Ryan Hutcheson was a star in the batter’s box as he had some hard hit balls into the gap helping the Hawks realize their first win for this season.
Hutcheson had two hits with two walks resulting in a good on base percentage.
Three errors was not good, but Coach Dunavant was not concerned.
“It was a cold day and most of those errors were hustle plays,” Coach Dunavant countered.
Nick Kissell saved the game for Powell and the Hawks will now prepare for their next four games at home during the Comal ISD Tournament.
On how this team is doing as this season gets into full gear, “The guys are enjoyable to coach and they are out there because they want to be out there.”
Thursday at noon, Canyon Lake will be refining their skills as the start of district play begins next week.
