CL Hawks continue to struggle offensively in the first few innings and Wimberley takes advantage in their 10-6 win on Tuesday night at the Hawk Diamond.

The Texans jutted out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning before CL could answer and that was the template for the rest of the evening. As Wimberley had Canyon Lake playing catch-up for the rest of the game.

“We are not starting like we were earlier this year on offense,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “We are just not starting when we should.”

Kelsey Ahrens and Alexis Robinson both finished the game with two hits leading CL’s offense.

Robinson also had a 3-Run Homer over the centerfield fence that hit the scoreboard that brought the score to 4-7 in

the fifth inning.

“My bat has been struggling,” Robinson stated. “I had been getting out front while batting and I was trying to set back so I could see the ball and I have been told I have fast hands and that helped me get out of my slump and make contact.”

Canyon Lake has hit a total of 2 home runs at home and this first pitch hit was hit with some degree of authority. The last time a Hawk had a homer was Katy Payne over 4 years ago.

Fielding, pitching, and hitting was present but also absent when needed most and Wimberley took advantage of each miscue.

Robinson gave up a solo home run to start the second inning and then got two quick outs, one being a diving catch for second baseman Kirsten Jones. Then a missed pop up in foul territory allowed that player to reach base via a walk before the next Texan had another home run scoring two more runs.

Those two at bats would not had happened if the fielding had been performing at a higher level.

CL allowed three runs in the 5th inning when fielding had two more miscues helping the Texans in scoring those runs.

“We have to start earlier with our bats,” Robinson commented. “We know we have talent and we are young but we still have tendencies and we need to step up and need to be mentally there.”

Canyon Lake is now 0-3 in district play and will be going for their first win when Boerne comes to town this Friday night.
