Canyon Lake has been in a funk for the past three weeks as the Hawks have lost 6 of their last 7

games while entering into the last three games of this year.

Luckily for CL, the first time through district play they crafted out a 3-2 record, which has helped keep Fredericksburg, Navarro, and Bandera in the rear view mirror.

However with this ‘funk’, Canyon Lake is now seeing those words on the mirror that states that items might seem closer than what might appear.

The Billies and Navarro are both within one game of tying Canyon Lake for two spots up for grabs for playoff games.

Looking at the remaining schedule, The ReSporter can do some speculating that can help in knowing what will need to be done to cement one of those two spots.

Canyon Lake did play Boerne tough on Tuesday, but this Greyhound team has been ranked all season in the top 15 teams in Texas, which last time The ReSporter checked, is a Big State.

So, with that as a back drop, let’s say the Hawks lose again this Thursday to Boerne, leaving CL with a 5-8 record with two games left against Navarro.

The Hawks have already won the season series with Bandera and that for all intense and purposes leaves those Bulldogs scratching the door to get back in the house. As luck would have it, these ‘dogs’ tear up the house and your significant other will not let them back in.

If Fredericksburg beat Wimberley this week, then the Billies would have the tie breaker against Canyon Lake leaving only one spot open to occupy.

That is assuming, Freddie would have a chance of sweeping Bandera next week. That is not a given, but that tie breaker still carries a lot of weight.

Navarro has one more game with Bandera and if the Panthers swept their next three games then that would give them a tie breaker over Canyon Lake and that last spot for the playoffs.

This is all being played out based on CL not beating Boerne.

A Canyon Lake win against Boerne would still put your Hawks in a place of needing to win one of two games with Navarro.

Fredericksburg loss to Wimberley would also help your Hawks as they would still be either one or two games behind CL based on the outcome with Boerne.

Canyon Lake can guarantee a spot in the post season with a sweep of Navarro as the Panthers and Bulldogs are two teams Canyon Lake would hold series records against.

Yes, Canyon Lake would like to finish in 3rd place in the district race, but having 4th place teams in the hunt gives a little more flying room to swoop up one of those two playoff spots.

Canyon Lake last two losses have been by one run and a better finish would be great for that ‘momentum’ word to be planted between those two ears being covered up by a batting helmet.

Closer than what was wanted as this district season started, but baseball has a way of humbling a player that looks at a .300 batting average as being a great milestone to achieve.

See you Thursday!
