“Point Hawks!” Canyon Lake Beats Yoakum, 3-0
Canyon Lake working on some dance moves in win over Yoakum Bulldogs
CL Hawks win first District 26-4A contest against Yoakum Bulldogs in a much closer than you think 3-0 victory, 27-25, 25-15, 25-22 on Tuesday night.
Canyon Lake stopped their eight game district losing streak in the process and now have evened their all time record at 112 all.
Another rung on CL’s ladder would be a 21-8 overall record and climbing up to 13 games over .500 for this season.
The first game was a see/saw affair as CL enjoyed a 16-11 advantage and then the Bulldogs got a hold of the Hawks like his owner just gave the Bulldog a bone.
Yoakum scored 13 points to the Hawks one and found themselves up, 23-17 and looking at a first win.
A sight not seen before was next for the Hawks as Head Coach Kim Paisley called two timeouts during that run which might be the only time this year that Coach Paisley has utilized all of those time outs with her players while the game is still being hotly contested.
What did Coach Paisley say? Junior Ashyn Hubertus took us behind the scenes saying, “Coach wanted us to get after it and lay it all on the floor….she has a lot of faith in us and she wanted us to relax and basically said that we were going to win this game!”
Canyon Lake did respond and scored 10 of the next 12 points to take a hard fought first game.

It was Hubertus that was a big part of that comeback as she came off the bench and responded with a three point serve and one being a big ace that helped closed the gap in the comeback.
“We were down and it took some mental toughness and the ace got us going and made us stronger,” Hubertus said.
This win showed just how deep this bench has become as Coach Paisley can call on any of those players and get positive results.
“I just got to keep working harder,” Hubertus closed.
Canyon Lake had an easy 25-15 game two when compared to that first game barn burner. The Hawks kept increasing the lead throughout this game and had their largest lead in the end by 10 points.
Yoakum did not want to go home early as the third game had seven ties with both schools no more than three points separating them.
Junior Bailey Drum had her adrenaline going by finishing with 19 kills that helped dominate the net for the Hawks.
Canyon Lake will play Gonzales this Friday and will be back at home next Tuesday, when they take on Navarro Panthers.
Canyon Lake had an emotional tribute to Scott Watson who passed away after the Volleyball season last year.
Scott Watson would say, “Point Hawks!!”
